"Putting Youth Back Into Sports"
There are approximately 43 million children in the U.S. who participate in sports. That means 43 million children who have excellent opportunities to increase their self-esteem, improve academic achievement, and develop an appreciation for personal health and fitness. However, up to 70 percent of youth who play sports will quit by the age of 12. Parents, coaches, sports organizations, and communities can contribute to creating an environment that promotes the positive impacts of youth sports and improves retention. But in order to do so, they must be aware of crucial factors of youth development and appropriate sports relationships.
