During tough financial times savvy consumers are faced with the challenge of providing high quality nutrition for their families at a reasonable cost. Many are turning to preserving their own food products at home as a good alternative to help reduce grocery prices. Those interested in learning the latest USDA food preservation guidelines are encouraged to attend a Jams and Jellies Workshop at the Mason County Extension Office on Monday, May 11 from 1:30-4:30 p.m.
Shirley Camp, nutrition educator with U of I Extension in the Macomb Center, will teach those attending how to make different types of jams and/or jellies using the most up-to-date USDA guidelines. Processing will occur with a water bath canner.
The workshop cost is $10 per person. Pre-registration is necessary and must be made by May 7. For more information or to register, call Mason County Extension at 309-543-3308 or register online.
