The Marshall-Putnam 4-H Meats Judging teams are led by volunteer Debbie Leigh. They compete at Spring contests held in Galesburg and Morton and then the State Contest in June held at U of I. The 2008 Morton Contest results are: Marshall-Putnam Jr. Team - 1st Place Michael Glenn - 7th David Masters - 6th Caroline Downey - 5th Sammi Bessler - 3rd Matthew Hahn - 1st James Leigh - 1st The 2008 Galesburg Contest results are: Junior Division Michael Glenn 8th Sammi Bessler 5th Caroline Downey 4th Matthew Hahn 2nd Senior Division Thomas Downey 3rd James Leigh 2nd The 2009 Meats Judging information: Meats Judging Team are 1st place at State in June Congratulations to Marshall-Putnam Meats Judging team. First place at State two years in a row!!! Coach Debbie Leigh helped prepare her team of 4-H members. Their hard work paid off in high scores and top awards. James Leigh won first place with an individual score of 585. According to Dr. Carr, contest director, James earned the highest score in the history of the contest, held since 1976. Other M-P Meats judging team members competing at the State contest were Caroline Downey, Thomas Downey, Matthew Hahn, Joe Cochran, Joe Fecht and David Masters.
Congratulations to the kids who judged at the Invitational Contest in Auguste -James, Matthew, Joe F, Mark, William, Thomas, and Sammi! You all did a great job in a tough contest!
James placed 1st, Matthew was 2nd, and Joe was 3rd. Since these three placed in the top 5, they made the STATE 4-H MEATS JUDGING TEAM!!! They will practice each week at U of I until the National contest at the end of October in Kansas. It's terrific to have Marshall-Putnam well represented at the national contest.
