State Fair - Any 4-Her, 10 years of age by September 1 of current 4-H year or over may enter. Classes with asterisk (*) eligible for State Fair.

GENERAL MISCELLANEOUS RULES

1. Live animals are not permitted in this area.

2. 4-Hers must be present for judging on Tuesday, according to the following schedule. After judging, take project books with you. Leave other things for display.

3. Members exhibiting in more than one area will need to arrive at the club time and enter the line that contains the least number of exhibitors. Upon completion member will need to proceed to next area.

4. Members exhibiting in bicycle projects may not ride bicycles on the fairgrounds with the exception of the bicycle rodeo. The time and location of the rodeo will be announced in the July newsletter. The rodeo may or may not occur during the 4-H Show. Members may bring a chain lock to secure bicycles.

5. To be eligible for State Fair (*) exhibits must be a maximum of 2' wide x 15" deep; posters 22" x30".

*2801 ANIMAL SCIENCE - Members enrolled in Veterinary Science, Animal Science projects such as Beef, Sheep, Swine, Dairy, Goat, Horse, Poultry, Rabbits or Dogs have a non-animal exhibit opportunity. Exhibit is to include a display or exhibit based on knowledge member learned in the project. Exhibit is not to include syringes with needles or other safety hazardous material. If chosen for State Fair, 4-Her may have to adjust display so that all items are affixed to the display board.

*2802 CLOVER CHALLENGE: ANIMAL SCIENCE - This class is limited to 15 to 18 year olds who are enrolled in Clover Challenge for this project area. Exhibit a display illustration the Clover Challenge area explored. This could include anything NOT covered in the project books, including but not limited to career exploration, in-depth study of animal nutrition or a specific animal disease, genetic engineering, etc. The completed Illinois 4-H Clover Challenge Agreement must be presented with the exhibit.

2803 CAT CARE - Exhibit project book plus a series of five (5) pictures of you working with your cat. Display pictures on a posterboard and label each photo with captions. Write a one page story telling about what you learned in the project this year.

2804 CAT CARE - Second or more years. Exhibit an educational exhibit or display related to cats; for instance feline leukemia, traveling with cats, etc.

2805 SMALL PETS - Member should exhibit a poster or display relating to an activity learned from the project relating to a single family/member pet. Exhibit should include picture of member with pet.

2806 BICYCLE I - Special Judging Time - Demonstrate 2 bicycle adjustments on your bicycle, for example seat, handlebars brakes, etc. Bring written instructions of the 2 adjustments that you plan to demonstrate. Written instructions will remain on display. May participate in the Bicycle Rodeo.

2807 BICYCLE II - Special Judging Time - Demonstrate and explain two bicycle maintenance practices, 1) Air the tires to the proper pressure, AND 2) One of the following: adjust the helmet, seat, handle bars, lever angles or shock absorbers OR oil the chain or levers OR remove and replace the front wheel. Bring written instructions of the two maintenance practices that you plan to demonstrate. Written instructions will remain on display. May participate in the Bicycle Rodeo.

2808 - BICYCLE III - Special Judging Time- Demonstrate and explain two bicycle maintenance practices, 1) Change a tire on a rim AND 2) One of the following: adjust the brake shoes, cable tension, de railer, or head set OR remove and replace the rear wheel OR true a wheel.

*2809 BICYCLE RODEO - Special Judging Time - Exhibitor must exhibit in 2806, 2807 or 2808 to participate in the rodeo. The rodeo will include a written test and consist of the following; bicycle inspection and riding test. Member is encouraged to wear a helmet.

*2810 CITIZENSHIP 1 - Exhibit a display illustrating one of the following options: 1) personal information about yourself - who you are, things you like to do, things you are good at, your favorites; 2) your feelings and how you handle these feelings; 3) your family, their responsibilities, how you work together; OR 4) the Family Pedigree that may include family group pages.

*2811 CITIZENSHIP 2 - Exhibit a display illustrating one of the following options 1) your neighborhood; 2) how you and others are good neighbors - what you do as good neighbors, what rights and responsibilities you have as a good neighbor, how being a good neighbor makes you feel; 3) a community service activity - one that you participated in or organized 4) what your school does to help the neighborhood, why it is important for the school to be involved in good citizenship, and how the school can help the community; OR 5) organizations, activities and events that your ancestors participated in, the impact they had on the community and their family.

*2812 Citizenship 3 – Exhibit a display illustrating one of the activities that you completed within your project as it relates to one of the following categories in the manual: 1) Government; 2) Business and Industry; 3) Transportation, Communication & Utilities; 4) Culture & Heritage; 5) Natural Resources & Environment; 6) Education; 7) Organizations within your community; 8) Tourism; OR 9) Support Systems within your community.

*2813 CITIZENSHIP, PUBLIC ADVENTURES- (Club Project) - Exhibit a display illustrating the steps that the club has completed on the project selected for the year. Include a written outline or report of accomplishments and future goals. The display must remain in place from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. OR 1:00 – 5:00 p.m., depending upon judging time. The display must be manned by 3 or more club exhibitors at the time of the judge's critique. Club members should make a 5-10-minute presentation to the judge. All club members present for the judge's critique should be able to discuss the project and answer questions. These members must not be exhibiting in another project area as an individual. Only club members present for judging (and meet the age requirement) who participate in the actual critique and presentation are eligible for ribbons and premium.

*2814 Service Learning I - Individual - Exhibit a binder portfolio to reflect what the exhibitor accomplished in the four steps of service learning. If exhibitor has been enrolled in project for multiple years, the binder portfolio should include previous years' work. Use of page protectors is recommended. Exhibit will NOT be labeled "Do Not Touch."

*2815 Service Learning II - Individual -- Exhibit a binder portfolio to reflect what the exhibitor accomplished in the four steps of service learning. If exhibitor has been enrolled in project for multiple years (including Service Learning I), the binder portfolio should include previous years' work. Use of page protectors is recommended. Exhibit will NOT be labeled "Do Not Touch."

*2816 LEADERSHIP - Leadership: Skills You Never Outgrow - Levels 1-4 - Prepare a binder portfolio with a minimum of two completed activities each year, from two different leadership skill areas. Build upon your previous year's work. Activities should relate to the exhibitor's age and experience. Photo copies of the completed activities from the books should be included with the portfolio.

*2818 CLOVER CHALLENGE: LEADERSHIP - This class is limited to 15 to 18 year olds who are enrolled in Clover Challenge for this project area. Exhibit a display illustration the Clover Challenge area explored. This could include anything NOT covered in the project books, including but not limited to career exploration, organization and facilitation of a county, regional or state event or activity, comparison of leadership styles of modern day leaders, etc.. The completed IL 4-H Clover Challenge Agreement must be presented with the exhibit.

READING

2826 READING-level 1 (ages 8 - 10) - A reading log must be submitted at the time of 4-H Show Registration. Reading log, with a minimum of 6 books, should include the following: book titles, authors, and number of pages. Exhibit a bookmark depicting one book or character from one book on your reading log. Be prepared to discuss how the bookmark related to the book or character.

2827 READING - level 2 (ages 11-14) - A reading log must be submitted at the time of 4-H Show Registration. Reading log, with a minimum of 8 books, should include the following: book titles, authors, and number of pages. Make a shoebox diorama OR poster depicting a story of character from the book. Be prepared to discuss how your display relates to the story.

2828 READING-level 3 (ages 15 - 18) - A reading log must be submitted at the time of 4-H Show Registration. Reading log should include the following: book titles, authors, and number of pages. Make one of the following: A collage depicting a book and written explanation of the objects or illustrations used and how they relate to the book OR a map showing a character's travels or area encompassed by the story AND a written explanation of how it related to the book OR a book review (minimum of 2 pages) OR a display about a book club you conducted or a story hour you conducted in your community.

INTERCULTURAL

Exhibits may be from any of the three categories listed below, however, the exhibitor may be questioned on any of the categories by the judge.

1. Geography - Prepare a display of the foreign country or region of the United States which includes something on the geography, economy, and/or agriculture of the country/region. Include completed project manual with the display.

2. People - Prepare a display on the people of the foreign country or region of the United States. Show something learned about the racial-ethnic groupings, the population, languages, religions, and/or housing. Include completed project manual with the display

3. Culture - Prepare a display on the culture of the foreign country or region of the United States. This might include music, crafts, clothing, housing, holiday celebrations, etc. Include completed project manual with display.

*2819 4-H PASSPORT TO THE WORLD - Prepare a display illustrating what you have learned about this country, culture or region. Exhibit should be educational in nature and should not promote one's belief over another person's beliefs. Include completed project manual with the display. Exhibit not to exceed 2' wide x 15" deep. If chosen to send your project to State Fair, all items in the display (including the project book) must be attached to the display board.

*2820 CLOVER CHALLENGE: PASSPORT TO THE WORLD - This class is limited to 15 to 18 year olds who are enrolled in Clover Challenge for this project area. Exhibit a display illustration the Clover Challenge area explored. This could include anything NOT covered in the project books, including but not limited to career exploration, in-depth study of a country, organization of and/or leadership to a county, regional, or state international event or experience, etc.. The completed Illinois 4-H Clover Challenge Agreement must be presented with the exhibit.

*2821 PASSPORT TO THE WORLD - Club - Exhibit should be educational in nature and should not promote one's beliefs over another person's beliefs. ALL items in the club/group display (including the project book) must be attached to the display board – NO additional items should be included. Club members should make a 5-10-minute presentation to the judge. All club members present for the judge's critique should be able to discuss the project and answer questions. These members must not be exhibiting in another project area as an individual. Only club members present for judging (and meet the age requirement) who participate in the actual critique and presentation are eligible for ribbons and premium.

THEATER ARTS

*2822 THEATER ARTS, Play the Role- Exhibit one of the following items: Portfolio of activities completed during the current year OR display illustrating a drawing/photograph of a clown character created by the exhibitor OR Display illustrating a picture story developed by the exhibitor.

*2823 THEATER ARTS, Become a Puppeteer - Exhibit one of the following items: Portfolio of activities completed during the current year OR Display on the history of puppets or puppetry in different cultures OR Display a puppet created by the exhibitor OR Display a story wheel and play adapted or written for puppets.

*2824 THEATER ARTS, SET THE STAGE- Exhibit one of the following items: Portfolio of activities completed during the current year OR Display that includes sound, props, and costume charts appropriate for a selected scene from a story or play (limited to 8 max.) OR Display a scenic deign model to depict a scene from a script OR Display illustrating a character with make-up drawn or colored in. Include a photograph of a person wearing the make-up and information on the character's personality or part in the play.

*2825 CLOVER CHALLENGE: THEATER ARTS - This class is limited to 15 to 18 year olds who are enrolled in Clover Challenge for this project area. Exhibit a display (limited to no more than 8 items) illustration the Clover Challenge area explored. This could include anything NOT covered in the project books, including but not limited to career exploration, writing own plays, history of costume design, comparison of various playwrights, design an opera house, etc.. The completed Illinois 4-H Clover Challenge Agreement must be presented with the exhibit. Any costume must be on a hanger and covered with a clear plastic bag for display.
