DOG CARE RULES

1. Bring your dog groomed for exhibit on Monday, July 13, 2009, 6 p.m. to M-P Fairgrounds.

2. American Kennel Club (AKC) rules will be followed. http://www.akc.org/rules/

3. Exhibitor numbers will be assigned at the Check-In table at the Dog Show.

4. Dogs should be free from visual evidence of infections, contagious or communicable diseases. The Illinois State Law requires a rabies shot for all dogs except puppies under four (4) months of age. All exhibitors must present certification of vaccination from veterinarian at check-in.

5. Dogs must be on a leashor crated (dog crates are acceptable) while on fairgrounds - Acceptabel leashes - 6 ft. leather, nylon, or canvas.

6. Keep dogs a good distance apart and allow no sniffing at each other at any time.

7. They must not be taken near livestock barns or Commerical, Hunt and Art bldgs. or Grandstand.

8. No pinch collars allowed.

9. Dogs do not have to be AKC registered to show in the obedience show.

10. Female dogs in season, must not participate.

11. A run-off will be held in case of a tie for total score.

12. Dogs will remain at the fairgrounds only at the time of the Dog Show.

13. Each 4-Her is responsible for cleaning up after their dog.

14. Dogs must be under the exhibitor's supervision at all times.

15. Classes 900 through 911 are exhibited at the 4-H Dog Show, held previous to the 4-H Show. July 14, 2008. Class 903 is judged at the Dog Show and then displayed at the 4-H Show with the Miscellaneous Department.

16. Dog Obedience classes in which AKC rules are used, are highly recommended prior to exhibiting in obedience classes.

900 DOG CARE - Judging will be on condition of coat, teeth, weight, eyes, feet, and ears. Any 4-H'er with a dog of any age is eligible for this class. (No obedience training is necessary).

901 COSTUME CLASS - Any 4-H member enrolled in Dog Care or Dog Obedience, with a dog of any age is eligible for this class. Both 4-H member and dog are to be dressed in a costume of the same theme. Judging will be on originality and theme. Non-premium class.

902 FUN CLASS - Have your dog perform ONE trick for the judge. Non-premium class.

*903 DOG SCIENCE - Exhibit study of dog's mineral and vitamin needs at various stages of life. A study of dog's digestive system and learn the essential functions of major organs. A study of internal and external parasites; discuss the life cycle, treatment, and prevention.

OBEDIENCE CLASSES

• Classes 904 through 909 require obedience training and will be conducted in accordance with American Kennel Club Obedience Trial Rules.

• Exhibitors planning to enter at the Illinois State Fair in 'Obedience' must have a score sheet signed by the judge of the ocunty show certifying the dog scored 50% of more of the available points for each exercise ont he sheet an da final score of at least 150 points for Beginner I, II and Graduate Beginner and 170 points for all other classes. There are special State Fair registration forms for Dog Obedience that must be completed.

• Registration for classes 904 thru 909 are limited to one class per dog.

904 BEGINNING I - All exercises will be performed on leash (member and dog's first year).

905 BEGINNING II - All exercises will be performed on leash (member's second year, dog's first year in training).

906 GRADUATE BEGINNER - Both on and off leash exercises. (member's and dog's second year in training).

907 NOVICE - Both on and off leash exercises (member's an dog's third year in training).

908 GRADUATE NOVICE - Both on and off leash exercises. (member's and dog's fourth year in training).

909 OPEN CLASS - Both on and off leash exercises will be performed. The following exercises will be included: Heel free and figure eight; Drop on recall; Retrieve on flat; Retrieve over high jump; Broad jump; Long sit - 3 minutes (handler out of sight); Long down sit - 5 minutes (handler out of sight).

910 JR. SHOWMANSHIP (up to age 13, 4-H age)- Non Premium Class - Exhibitors will be judged on dog handling skills and elementary dog anatomy. Dogs will be judged on cleanliness, general health and grooming.

911 SR. SHOWMANSHIP (14 and older, 4-H age) - Non Premium Class - Exhibitors will be judged on dog handling skills and elementary dog anatomy. Dogs will be judged on cleanliness, general health and grooming.
