State Fair - Any 4-H'er, 10 years of age by September 1 of current 4-H year or over may enter.
GENERAL HORSE & PONY RULES
1. Exhibitors must register for exhibit classes by July 1 deadline. Exhibitors will be unable to add classes on the day of the show.
2. Animals are to remain in designated areas at all times. No one is allowed to ride horses around the fairgrounds.
3. Animals brought in the night before the Horse Show must have adult overnight supervision for the animal and 4-Her. See Permission Form at end of book.
4. Animals may haul in and out the day of the show, with trailers to be parked in a designated area.
5. Stalls will be available on first come basis.
6. Walk-trot class is open to any 4-Her that has not won a trophy for a Performance class from any previous year.
7. Division of horses and ponies is 56 inches (14 hands) mature height.
8. No stallions over 12 months of age to be exhibited.
9. Each exhibitor is limited to one entry in each class.
10. Previous champions are eligible to compete in Champion Pony or Champion Horse Classes.
11. Saddles will be used in all classes unless stated differently.
12. Any exhibitor riding a horse on the fairgrounds at any time is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to wear an approved helmet with safety harness fastened. It is currently a requirement at the Illinois State Fair Jr. Horse Show. This requirement will be phased in by 2010 for the Marshall-Putnam 4-H Show.
13. Hats need to fit properly and be secured AT ALL TIMES. Use hair pins if necessary. During approved shows, if your hat falls off you are excused from the class. Hats flying off during performance classes may interfere with other exhibitors by hitting or spoking their horse. This rule will be enforced.
14. Proper English attire required in Class 612.
15. Patterns will be posted before horse show for Classes 607, 608, 615, & 616.
16. Animals must be shown by 4-H member.
17. Miniature Horse is not to exceed 38 inches, guidelines obtained from the American Miniature Horse Association.
18. Superintendents will have final entry decision for Pleasure Driving class, after inspection of equipment and handling capabilities of driver.
19. No exhibitor will be allowed to show without proper attire for any class shown. This includes boots, hats, helmet, etc.
