DEPARTMENT D - DAIRY

State Fair - Any 4-H'er, 10 years of age by September 1 of current year or over may enter.

GENERAL DAIRY RULES

1. Each exhibitor will be limited to two entries in each class. A recognized dairy breed may be shown.

2. Registration papers will be checked on Tuesday after 5 p.m. All exhibitors should have their papers in the 4-H Fair office.

3. Each breed will be judged separately.

4. Any heifer that has calved goes in the Cow Class.

5. Milking Shorthorns will be judged as Dairy animals.

6. Any exhibitor may exhibit breeding animals in either the purebred classes or grade classes, but not both.

7. Champion and Reserve Champion of each breed will be chosen.

8. Grand Champion Female and Junior Champion Female will be chosen.

9. Reserve Champion Female and Reserve Junior Champion Female will be chosen.

10. Bucket Calf must be at least 90 days old to show. Can be Dairy or Beef.

AGE CLASSIFICATION OF DAIRY BREEDS

Junior Heifer Calf - Born 3/1 or after of current year.

Intermediate Heifer Calf - Born 12/1 of previous year to 2/28 of current year.

Senior Heifer Calf - Born 9/1 to 11/31 of previous year.

Summer Yearling - Born 6/1 to 8/31 of previous year.

Junior Yearling - Born 3/1 to 5/31 of previous year.

Intermediate Yearling - Born 12/1 to 2/28 or 29 of previous year.

Senior Yearling - Born 9/01 two years previous to 11/31 two years previous.

Two-Year Cow - Born 9/1 three years previous to 8/31 two years previous.

Three-Year Cow - Born 9/1 four years previous to 8/31 three years previous.

Aged Cow - Born before 9/1 four years previous.

Bucket Calf - Born after 1/1 but not later than 4/15 of current year.

462 Open to any exhibitor in the Dairy Department . An overall Showmanship will receive trophy and ribbon. A Junior and Senior winner will be selected for the Supreme Showmanship class - see pages 21 & 10.
