State Fair - Any 4-H'er, 10 years of age, by September 1 of current 4-H year, or over may enter.
GENERAL BEEF RULES
1. No false tail heads will be permitted and any animal may be disqualified for unethical grooming and fitting practices.
2. Each exhibitor is limited to four calves, regardless of breed, in Steer Class, but is limited to two in any one weight class. Each exhibitor may have two entries in each class in the Purebred and Premier Classes.
3. Weight divisions in the steer classes will be determined after all entries have been weighed. Steers and Premiere steers will be weighed Wednesday morning at 8:00 a.m.
4. Crossbred steers and all breeds other than Angus, Hereford, and Shorthorn steers will show together in weight classes. Separate classes for other breeds will be provided if numbers in weight classes permit.
5. The Beef Subcommittee, from the 4-H Association, will decide in which Steer Class (purebred or crossbred) the animal will be placed if a question should arise.
6. Steers are eligible to show in Premier Class if they are properly nominated and entered on the 4-H Show Registration form. Dairy Steers are eligible for Premier Class.
7. If under 15 steers in a division, there will be two classes; 15 or more steers there will be three classes.
8. No Professional groomers allowed, family members only.
9. Marshall-Putnam County Fair Board requests only one (1) fan per three (3) head of cattle. If exhibitor wants more than one (1) fan per three (3) head of livestock, generator must be used. (Hanging cage fans only. See rule 12, page 7.)
10. Club Group Award will be given to the club exhibiting the top four (4) head in the beef show. Recognition and the club name will be added to the plaque and will be given at the Evening Show. Animals should be representative of as many 4-H participants from different families in the club, if possible. 4-H members should select animals in club to lead in to show ring.
State Fair Ownership Dates
The State Fair requires the following ownership dates for the Jr. Beef Department.
Steer - February 1, current year
Heifer - June 1, current year
RATE OF GAIN / BEEF PREMIER CLASS
1. Maximum of two animals per any one exhibitor, may be shown in the Beef Premier Class.
2. The steers must have been weighed at the M-P Beef Weigh-In in February and entered on the 4-H Show Registration form in class 102.
3. Class 102 will be judged on rate of gain. 4-H records must be available for committee viewing and may be used to decide close placings.
4. Premiere entries may also enter the Baby Beef Class.
5. Premier Structure: 2.5 lbs. or better daily gain = Blue
2.0 lbs. or better daily gain = Red
Less than 2.0 lbs. daily gain = White
Steer Division
Breed classes will follow Rule 3 in General Beef Rules. Must have been dropped since January 1, of previous year. Champion and Reserve Champion Steers will be chosen for each of the breeds.
Purebred
Heifers must be purebred except in the Crossbred Heifer Classes 144-149 and registered in the Member's name or in a partnership name, provided the partnership agreement accompanies such papers.
Steers
102 Rate of Gain - Calves must be registered in 4-H Beef Premier Class. Will be shown at halter. On your premium sheet you must enter this class the same number of times as you will have beef to show in this class.

SUPREME SHOWMANSHIP - Winners in Sr. Showmanship exhibit classes in beef, sheep, swine and dairy will be invited to compete. Each exhibitor will have an opportunity to show three animal species they are not the winners in. Animals will be selected by the superintendents from 4-H projects exhibited at the current 4-H Show. A Supreme Showman will be selected from contestants who are not previous Supreme Showman award winners.
