Hines Report Every year, Ron Hines establishes traps at locations in the central and southern part of Illinois to monitor flights of several species of adult moths and beetles during the spring and summer months. He uses specific pheromones to capture specific insects in different types of traps. By monitoring the flights of these species and recording the dates and densities of captures, we can predict other biological activities (e.g., egg laying, occurrence of larval stages, occurrence of injury). This information can be used to schedule scouting and/or management activities.
