Be Productive: While working, a job well done benefits the person, but when unemployed it is still beneficial to feel the accomplishment of doing a chore and having completed it successfully. By working in the yard, volunteering at a local charity, your child's school, your church or a neighborhood group, you can achieve this same since of being productive while keeping active and busy.
Network for success: By using the time you spend with those outside of your house engaged in conversations, you can learn more about what is available to you in your community as well as further your own availability to those who might not know you are looking for work. This 'pole' comes on the heels of the first one because you can use those sites where you are doing volunteer work to network, to build a support system of individuals to assist you in finding gainful employment, or if you are truly enjoying the volunteer work you are doing, why not find out if they have openings that you might qualify for while you are there.
Outlook: Ever notice how 2 people in the same situation can look at things from 2 completely separate points of view...during a layoff one will see the crisis of the situation and the other will see the opportunity that has landed on the door step. With a positive outlook, you will be more accepting of new situations, you stand straighter and you remain healthier...and that smile can open a lot of doors when it appears on your face.
If you look at life as a tent, do you know the importance of tent poles? When putting up the tent, the tent poles are hard to deal with, they are cumbersome and yet without them, there is no tent. The tent poles are there for support. They are the backbone of the tent. They are the foundation of the cover against the storm while camping. Tent poles are in your every day life as well. They are there propping you up when times are tough. Do you know who and what your tent poles are?
