Sherry Rocha

Unit Educator, Family Life

Sherry Rocha came to University of Illinois Extension Macon Unit as a family life educator in January 2002. Originally from Illinois, Rocha earned her bachelor's in art education from Northern Illinois University. The last 12 years were spent in Colorado and Western Nebraska where she acquired a wealth of experience to share with Macon County. Accomplishments include establishing her own childcare business in Colorado and serving as director of a center in North Platte, Nebraska umbrellaed under NAF Multicultural Human Development Corporation.

In 1995, she completed a masters of education in curriculum and instruction with a specialization in multicultural education from University of Nebraska-Kearney. She was the first to earn this specialization and helped with the conception of the requirements. At Mid Plains Community College in North Platte, Rocha taught Early Childhood Education and Child Development courses that she developed. She also developed a series of training workshops for childcare providers. While program coordinator for South Central Early Childhood Coalition she partnered with Extension in Lincoln County to serve the needs rural areas of Nebraska experience in receiving quality child development training and parenting classes. A unique experience for Rocha was teaching K-8 students in a rural one-room school.

Rocha is happy to be back in Illinois serving Macon County.
