Emerald Ash Borer Program:

After discovering that the planned Poisonous Plant program was nearly three hours long, John Fulton opted to do a program on the Emerald Ash Borer. A question and answer session followed the viewing of a very informational video by the USDA.

Although the Poisonous Plant program was not given, copies of the information sheets for that program were distributed to all who wanted them. John indicated that anyone who wanted to do a self study with the poisonous plant material, could get up to 2 hours CE.

Leaf Mulch:

Lisa is checking to see if Ryan Curry of Curry Lawn Service would bring us leaves that are already mulched.

After Meeting Addendum: Mr. Curry brought a load of leaves and dumped them by the bins. They are not as finely chopped as we are used to, but we're going to give them a try. No more bagged leaves will be needed. A work day will be called for next week to move the leaves to the bins, and since we couldn't sort and bag pots today due to the rain, we will do the sorting and bagging then, also.

Scully Park:

Ron Ross reported that bulbs have been planted at Scully Park, and grass has been planted in the old perennial bed area. Pictures will be taken and sent to the Scully Board in the spring, to show them what has been accomplished. The metal boundary rings around the trees have not been removed as yet.

Field Trip:

We will be taking a bus to the Chicago Flower Show at Navy Pier on Monday, March 8, 2010, with "pit stop" both ways at Dwight.

Garden Walk:

Mary Moore reported that we have six gardens for the 2010 Garden Walk, plus the South and West Extension beds, and the container display on the Extension Porch. Kay Furman will send letters to the owners of the chosen gardens for formal acceptance.

Fairground Beds:

It's time to get the fairground beds cleaned off. Please consider using some of the compost in the right-hand compost bin to top off your bed. After the January meeting we will need to start thinking about what plants will be needed for these beds.

Lincoln College Request:

Lincoln College has asked for Master Gardener assistance in landscaping around the new building on campus and the President's home. They are going to send a proposal as to what they are wanting. Although we really have enough projects, it might be well to consider this, as possibly we might be able to "negotiate" later for some space to have some classes for the community. We will review the proposal and discuss this at the January meeting.

West Central Regional Master Gardener Conference:

Judy Lumpp gave a brief report on the October 8th Conference. She brought back several possibilities for contacts for programs for the coming year. These were given to Lisa Wrage. She added that this was a very informativel conference, and encouraged others of our group to attend in the future.

Programs:

Grace Wibben volunteered to Chair a committee to work on programs for the coming year. If you are willing to help, please contact her.

January Newsletter:

We will be working on a Newsletter for January. If you can help, please contact Mary Moore.

MG Time Accumulated for Meeting:

Today's meeting resulted in 1 hour CE time and 1 hour Volunteer time.

Voluteer Hours:

Remember, your Volunteer Hours are due at the end of the year. Certified Master Gardeners need 30 Volunteer Hours and 10 Continuing Education Hours.

Next Meeting:

There will be no meeting in November or December. The next meeting will be held on Monday, January 25, 2010.
