Lee County Master Gardeners

At the annual Illinois Master Gardener conference, the Lee Co. Master Gardeners received the "Teamwork Award" for their current project of beautifying the Lee Co. Fairgrounds. In 2005 the beautification committee laid out a plan to educate the public about plants, create a habitat for birds and butterflies and to generate interest in the Master Gardener program. They started by adding shade plants and a garden called "For the Birds" around the main exhibit building. Other work includes new gardens and plants near the main entrance.

More than 120 people attended the event benefiting local Extension programs. The evening was complete with an hors d'ourve buffet, music, auctions, raffles, and great friends. Among the auction items-garden hats designed by local businesses, organizations and individuals
