4-H Show (general information)

1. Entries MUST be postmarked or in the Lee Co. Extension Office by July 1, 2009. Extension Office closes at 4:30 p.m.
2. All exhibits are entered at owner's risk. Neither the Lee County Fair Association nor Lee County Extension will assume liability for lost or damaged exhibits.
3. Lee County Extension Staff and Fair Association members reserve the right to remove any exhibitor or exhibit.
4. Exhibits may enter the fair grounds between 5:00 and 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22 and between 8:00 and 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2009. Arrival before 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday is prohibited unless authorized by the Fair Association and the Department Superintendent.
5. All exhibits, both livestock and non-livestock, shall be in place by 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 23, with these EXCEPTIONS: RABBITS need to be in place by 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, FOOD and HORTICULTURE EXHIBITS need to be in place by 10:00 a.m. on Friday morning, July 24 andHORSES, CATS & DOGS which need to be in place as specified in their department pages.
6. Livestock exhibitors shall wear an Exhibitor Number while in the show ring. If you have two entries in a class, an additional card bearing your exhibitor number may be requested at the Fair Office. All animals shall be shown by the owner. If additional help is needed another youth should be asked. These youth must be between 8 and 18 years of age as of September 1, 2008.
7. Department shows that judge both 4-H and Jr. shows on the same day will run the specific 4-H class followed by the Jr. show class.
8. Health papers must be stamped by the Fair Veterinarian at the Fair Office at one of the following times: 8:00–9:00 pm. on Wednesday, July 22 or from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 23.
9. The Department Superintendents will check purebred registration papers. These papers (or copies) must remain on the grounds for the duration of the fair. Animals not registered in the 4-Her or Jr. Show participant's name may not be shown in registered classes.
10. All animal exhibits must be owned and h ave been personally cared for by exhibitor. Exception – horses, ponies, and dogs may be leased but should still be cared for by the exhibitor.
11. Stall and pens must be kept clean at all times. Waste is to be loaded into spreaders by exhibitors.
12. All exhibitors are expected to thoroughly clean out their pens and exhibit areas and have approval of superintendent before leaving at the end of the fair.
13. No alcoholic beverages will be allowed on the grounds by anyone of any age during fair events.
14. Overnight accommodations – Wednesday-Saturday evenings. Youth under the age of 18, staying overnight must stay in a registered camper in the camper parking area accompanied by at least one of their parents or an adult chaperone.
15. EXHIBITS ARE TO REMAIN IN PLACE IN EXHIBIT AREA UNTIL PUBLISHED RELEASE TIMES.**
Non-livestock exhibits will be released at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 26.
Livestock exhibits will be released at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 26.
No trailers are to be brought to barn area before 5:30!!
Exception - If an animal is ill or uncontrollable, the owner must first inform the superintendent and the fair veterinarian and then move it to another location on the fairgrounds. If the owner wishes to remove the animal from the grounds at this point, it requires the written approval of the fair vet; the department superintendent; and the Fair Association President, Vice President or other designated board member. If the animal is returning to the grounds the next day, it must be back on the grounds by 8 a.m. the following morning. If all of these procedures are not adhered to, premiums will be forfeited.
16. On matters regarding Animal Health Rules, the decision of the Fair Veterinarian is final.
17. There will be no night guards on Sunday night. Animals left will be at owner's risk.
18. In accordance with the Americans Disability Act, if you need a reasonable accommodation to participate in this program, please contact the Lee County Extension office at 815/857-3525.
19. No bicycles, skateboards or motorized scooters or vehicles may be driven or ridden on the grounds unless approved by Fair Association.
1. All 4-H exhibitors must be members of a Lee County 4-H club and enrolled in the project in which they are exhibiting and must have attended at least one local club meeting within this 4-H year or they will not be allowed to participate in the Lee County 4-H Fair.
2. All youth showing animals that are housed on the 4-H grounds will be familiar with and practice proper care and showing of the animal species.
3. All 4-H exhibitors must be age 8 by September 1 of the current 4-H year and have not reached age 19 as of Sept. 1 of the current year. Cloverbud exhibitors must be between the ages of 5 and 7 as of Sept. 1 of the current 4-H year.
4. All exhibits must have been produced during the current 4-H year.
5. Exhibitors will be limited to two entries in each class (except Quality Meats, Pair of Market Gilts, Pair of Market Barrows, and multiple animal Sheep classes – in which you may only enter one). Only two entries are allowed in the market classes of sheep and swine that are sub-divided at the fair by weight. If an exhibitor has made two entries in a class/subclass, premiums will be paid on highest placing class/subclass only.
6. 4-H'ers in all non-livestock 4-H classes are strongly encouraged to be present for conference judging. Exhibitors may sign up for a conference judging time at exhibit check-in. Exhibitors should come prepared to discuss with the judge: A.) Process followed in making the exhibit, B.) what you learned, and C.) what you would do differently next time. 4-H'ers unable to be present for conference judging must include written statements for these three topics with their project. Failure to include written answers could result in a lower rating.
7. Parents will be prohibited from participating in any conference judging.
8. Papers on all registered livestock must be in the name of exhibitor before latest possession date for project, or be shown in a grade class. (Dates are listed in department areas.) Eligible registrations are illustrated as follows: John Doe; Doe Brothers, John; or Timberline Farms, John Doe. Copies of registration papers must be kept on grounds during the entire fair.
9. Members need to be enrolled in the following projects by January 1 of current 4-H year in order to participate in the 4-H division of the Lee County Fair: Beef , Dairy, Goat, Horse, Sheep, Swine. Enrollment in all other projects by May 1 of current year in order to be eligible to participate in the 4-H division of the fair.
10. Ownership dates for all livestock are listed per department.
11. Exhibits in each class will be rated and placed in one of three groups: Blue Award, Red Award, White Award.
12. Champion ribbons and State Fair Delegate/Alternate ribbons will be awarded in classes at the discretion of the judge. If judge does not feel projects are of quality, he/she has the right to not select a champion or to not pick a state fair delegate/alternate.
13. 4-H premiums will be paid using the X-factor. The X-factor system insures that all monies available for premiums are distributed to those 4-H members who exhibited their projects. At the conclusion of the 4-H Fair, the computer tallies a total number of X's awarded. The total of X's is divided into the amount of premium money available from the State Agriculture Premium Fund. Premiums will be distributed at the following levels:
Level 1 – Livestock exhibit classes including dogs and cats:
Blue = 7X
Red = 5X
White = 3X
Level II – All non-livestock classes including Animal Science:
Blue =5X
Red = 3X
White = 1X
No cash premium will be awarded for Cloverbud, Showmanship, Fashion Revue or Club/Group entries.
14. BEEF, SWINE, GOAT, RABBIT, and DOG Showmanship classes will be divided by age. Jr. Showmanship participation will include anyone under 14 years of age by September 1, 2008. Anyone 14 & over by September 1, 2008, will be considered as Sr. Showmanship. Horse showmanship will be divided into 3 divisions: Jr.Jr., Jr. and Sr. Ages for these three classifications will also be as of Sept. 1, 2008. See department pages for ages. Sheep Showmanship class ages will be adjusted after the age of participants is determined. Dairy showmanship will all be one class.
Fair Association members, Department Superintendents and Extension Staff members have the right to evict a person from the grounds for a minor disturbance (i.e. foul language, unsportsmanlike conduct or any inappropriate behavior). Major disturbances (i.e. bringing malice, harm to other exhibitor's property, continuing minor disturbances repeatedly) may warrant more serious punishment, (i.e. evicting from entire fair, banning from next year's show).
GRIEVANCES/PROTESTS
A Grievance Committee shall consist of a Fair Association member, an Extension Council member, Extension personnel, and Department Superintendent. They will meet once a day during each day of the fair. Judging concerns/questions should go to the appropriate Department Superintendent first. If the concern is not able to be resolved, then the situation may be referred to the Grievance Committee. All grievances must be in writing and signed at least ½ hour before the committee meets. Complaints must be brought before the Grievance Committee within 24 hours of the incident. 4-Her (and parents) filing the grievance should be present at the meeting. Grievance committee meets daily at 3:30 p.m.
