Positive Youth Development

Research shows the importance of the "eight critical elements" in youth programming. Some resources have been developed which are posted here. Some refer to a group puzzle activity. Contact Deb Stocker at the State 4-H Office to borrow the puzzles.

  • "Survivor" PYD power point PPT
Accompanies the three PYD puzzle activity, a quick introduction to the eight critical elements of PYD.

  • 8 Critical Elements of PYD wrap-up activity form Word
This form lets "Survivor" teams work together in one last effort to gain team points. Can they remember the 8 critical elements? If they draw an icon, and write a description, they get a point for each. Helps participants to review in a 2 minute activity the 8 important elements of positive youth development.

  • PYD Brochure Word
This brochure lists the eight critical elements of PYD, along with the graphics that will be referenced in the "Survivor" puzzle game.

  • PYD Survivor Puzzle Directions Word
The directions to the PYD "Survivor" puzzle activity are here.

  • Survivor Bonus Point Chart Word
Here is the handout on which "spotters" can observe and score the three teams competing in the PYD Puzzle activity. This works out well for those who cannot be physically active, or those who do not want to actively compete. The observers will award or take away points on this scoresheet, depending on the leaders and participants behaviors.

  • Survivor Evaluation Word
What program is complete without evaluation? This form allows participants to give feedback about knowledge and skills acquired.

  • Survivor Introduction Word
This introduces the PYD "Survivor" game to participants.
