Breaking the Code (BTC)

BTC is an anti-bullying resource created by U of I Extension in 2009. Especially for middle-school and high school youth in a class or group setting, it offers eight scenarios or skits which youth act out and then process. BTC is a research-based prevention simulation and guided discussion. It helps youth understand the power of bystanders in preventing bullying situations.

  • BTC - Cautions Word
The eight skits in BTC contain emotionally powerful material. This document reiterates cautions shared in the training for the presenters.

  • BTC - Symbols text Word
Accompanying the students' half-page symbol handout, here is a page explaining why the symbols are included.

  • BTC symbols half-sheet Word
If you are presenting BTC to your class, and want students to have a legend of the symbols in color, here is a template so you can print handouts in color!
