Around the World with Rookie Cooks
The theme for the 2006 Rookie Cooks session will be...Around the World with Rookie Cooks!
We will "visit" Mexico, Germany, China, Africa, and Italy. The youth will learn about each region's culture, customs, flag, language and, of course, food. Each day will focus on a different place, using several recipes from that region. We are scheduled to make dishes like stir fry, sauerkraut salad, tortillas, cakes, and even pizza. We will also learn about safety and sanitation in the kitchen, proper cooking techniques such as measuring and mixing, and making healthy food choices. The participants will be able to sample each recipe we make.
On the last day the children will be invited to bring in something that they've prepared at home. It could be a Rookie Cooks recipe or a family recipe representing their culture (or a culture they are interested in). It will be a great way to celebrate each child's own heritage.
Space is limited, so sign up now! You can print a registration form (located under the "Forms and Downloads" section of this webpage) or pick one up at the Extension Office. Return your completed form and your $6.00 fee and join us for a trip around the world!
