CONGRATULATIONS TO MATTHEW AND MASON DEHLINGER for their terrific accomplishments at the National Engineering Challenge at Purdue University in early October. Matthew won first place in welding and Mason took first in tractor driving. They both also participated in the Engineering Quiz Bowl on the Illinois team with 2 other youth and came in second, one point off the mark of first place. They earned the trip to Nationals by winning in their respective divisions in Illinois earlier this year. These boys can serve as encouragement to other Richland County youth who have skills in any of the engineering fields such as electricity, robotics, bicycle, aerospace, etc. The Illinois contests usually take place in June in Champaign. Watch the Newsletter for announcements of such opportunities.
Be sure to attend the Achievement Night ceremonies on November 6. We need to show our youth our support and let them know just how proud we are of them all. Just a reminder to the Golden Harvesters, Berryville Jr Farmers and Builders of the Future clubs to bring 8 dozen cookies each to this event. Please bring your food items for the food pantry. See you there!

The next meeting will be October 26 at 7:00 p.m. Mason is the scheduled speaker; he will talk about the National Engineering Contest he attended. It was suggested that everyone come in costumes for the Halloween season, which was roundly approved by the kids. Refreshment committee for October is the Sagers and Zwillings. Election of officers will take place at this meeting also.
The annual Veteran's Day Parade will be Wednesday, November 11. All marchers are asked to meet at the TrustBank on east Main St. about 10:00 a.m. The parade will begin its march to the courthouse at 10:30 a.m. sharp. If any club is interested in carrying the county 4-H banner, please call the office. There is no school November 11 but the Extension office will be open.
à A craft show is planned in Dundas November 21 and 22; the organizer is looking for a 4-H or other civic club to sell a lunch those days. They don't have large crowds but the club would keep all their profits. If any club is interested, please call Betty Meers at 618-754- 3551 as
soon as possible.
à The Salvation Army is looking for "Tree of Lights" campaign bell ringers at Wal-Mart and IGA stores from 9:00 a.m. through 9:00 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays through Saturdays beginning November 18 up to December 24. Please contact Matt Taylor or Jessie Taylor at 838-6155 if you/your club can help.

Items may also be brought to 4-H Achievement Night November 6. Please clearly label your donation for Operation Home Front so items are not confused with our annual non-perishable food drive for our local food pantry also being collected at Achievement Night. OHF would also appreciate people writing/making greeting cards of any kind for our soldiers, to let them know we appreciate their service to our country. All items need to be collected before November 20 as they will be packing boxes then for delivery overseas before Christmas.

Refreshments
Now that we have started a new 4-H year, youth are reminded to complete their enrollment forms and return to their club leaders as quickly as possible. Due to rising costs of postage and handling, the office usually does not enter enrollments/order manuals until leaders believe all returning club members have turned in their forms. This way, all manuals come together and not "piece-meal" which is very expensive postage wise. Please help us keep your costs down by returning enrollments promptly. Remember: all those taking livestock projects MUST have enrollment forms in the office by December 23, 2009, in order to sell at the auction.
