The Family Nutrition Program (FNP) in Lawrence/Richland Unit is coordinated by Ann Oswalt. She is certified in nutrition education and has been with the program since 2004. Lawrence/Richland Unit FNP promotes safe and healthy eating for Food Stamp eligible individuals and families. FNP collaborates with community agencies to meet the needs of this population.
Funding for the Food Stamp Nutrition Education Program is through Food Stamp Administrative funds by the Food and Consumer Service of the U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Areas of programming are:
- basic nutrition and the benefits of physical activity (Focus on MyPyramid)
- basic cooking instruction for adults and youth
- food safety
- food budgeting
Locations for programs and materials include:
- Good Samaritan of Richland County Food Pantry
- FCRC- Lawrence and Richland Counties
- Head Start Programs in Bridgeport and Lawrenceville
- West Richland Pre-K
- East Richland Elementary School, Petty School, Bridgeport Grade School, and other qualified schools
- After School Programs
- Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Group-Richland County
- SWAN
- L/CAEC-Lawrence County
- WIC
- ERBA Office-Lawrence County
- Other sites as requested

- Hand washing
- Food budgeting
- Food safety
- Basic cooking and "no-cook" cooking
- Cooking with kids
- Meal planning
- Increasing physical activity
- Healthy snacks
