2009 Fair Exhibition Rules
2009
LaSalle County 4-H Show
General Rules (Please Read Carefully)
1. Entries are limited exclusively to 4-H members enrolled in LaSalle
County 4-H. Eligibility to show is limited to boys and girls between eight
and nineteen years of age as of September 1st, past year.
2. Each boy or girl may make one exhibit in each project carried unless other
wise specified.
3. All non-livestock entries must be turned into the Extension Office no later than 4:30 p.m., June 18th.
4. All 4-H exhibits must be on the grounds and in place by 9:00 a.m., Thursday, July 9th, unless otherwise specified. Please check specific livestock departments for check-in times on Thursday, July 9th.
5. All exhibits except livestock, must be clearly labeled with the registration tag.
6. All purebred animals shown must be owned by the exhibitor and must be
registered in the name of the exhibitor, the only exception being horses
and ponies which maybe leased provided that an approved lease form has
been filed at the extension office no later than May 1 current year. No
partnership agreements.
7. Decisions of the judges are final.
8. All 4-H exhibits will be rated per Standards of Excellence Blue, Red or
White. Blue (project meets Standards of Excellence requirements.)
Red (project needs improvement.)
White (project needs much improvement.)
9. Exhibit space and general projects is limited, check area for space requirements.
10. No exhibits may be removed from the grounds until 5:00 p.m. Sunday,
July 12. Livestock cannot be removed until stalls and pens are cleaned.
Premium money will be withheld if projects are removed before deadline.
All exhibits must be removed by 7:00 p.m., Sunday, July 12.
11. Records must be kept on all exhibits as part of the 4-H project require-
ments and turned in per class requirements.
12. Use or possession of intoxicating beverages or drugs is strictly prohib-
ited on grounds. Violators will be removed from the grounds and not
permitted to return.
13. Smoking is prohibited in all barns.
14. Use of fireworks or other flammable materials is strictly prohibited.
15. 4-H members display their exhibits at their own risk.
16. Judges may not judge projects of their own children, grandchildren or close relatives and friends.
17. No 4-H member or other persons will be allowed to stay overnight at the
LaSalle County 4-H Show prior to, during, or after the fair.
18. All livestock exhibited must be owned and personally cared for by the
4-H member for the required period of ownership. (Attending school or
college away from home or working away from home for extended periods
may be considered cause for ineligibility). Failure to comply with this rule
may result in disqualification, forfeiture of premiums.
19. Animals are to be cared for, groomed by 4-H member or immediate family
member. Use of fitter is prohibited.
20. All livestock must be exhibited in the show ring by the owner, except
when there are two entries in the same class or in special emergency
situations, then another 4-H member may help.
21. No person except the 4-H member will be permitted in the ring while
animals are being judged. 4-H members are responsible for having live
stock and other exhibits in the show ring at the times classes are called.
22. 4-H members will be responsible for keeping their pens, stalls and stables
clean and bedded.
23. All tie-outs must be cleaned before cattle are released.
24. All feed boxes, pails, etc., must be kept neatly stored, and alley ways must
be kept clean and cleared at all times.
25. It is strictly prohibited to feed intoxicating beverages to livestock.
26. No use of animal tranquilizers or injectable drugs of any sort will be
permitted on any animal exhibited by any exhibitor during the fair.
27. In order to show in the LaSalle County 4-H Show a member MUST be
enrolled in the specific 4-H project in which they are exhibiting no later
than May 1, present year.
28. Reminder: All 4-H'ers exhibiting in livestock are required to have
completed an Illinois State Ethics Training. Members are required to
take this course only one time during their 4-H membership. The web

June 9th for Horses and July 1st for Beef, Swine, Dairy, Sheep, Poultry and
Goats.
29. Showmanship categories are as follows: Junior (ages 8-10 years old as of
September 1, past year; Intermediate (ages 11-13 years old as of
September 1st, past year; and Senior (ages 14 years old and older as of
September 1st, past year.
NOTICE
Most 4-H exhibits will be conference judged. The judge will make oral comments and grades. Exhibitors, but not parents, may ask questions and comment on their exhibit.
Junior Show Rules And Regulations
The general supervision of the grounds and entire exhibition is vested in a board of directors, who will have immediate charge of the grounds and assign such aid to superintendents as may be required, receive exhibitors on their arrival and direct them to the proper places, and see that none of the rules are violated with impunity.
General Eligibility Rules
***Notice: Throughout this show book, the phrase "past year" will mean 2008,
and the phrase "present year" will mean 2009.
THESE RULES APPLY TO ALL CLASSES IN THIS CATALOG
1. Entries are limited exclusively to LaSalle County Exhibitors.
2. Eligibility to show is limited to boys and girls between eight and nineteen
years of age as of September 1, past year.
3. The interpretation of all rules governing the Junior Fair shall rest entirely
with the Junior Fair Association and the decision shall be final.
4. All animals exhibited must be owned and personally cared for by the
exhibitor, and feed records must be available for all animals if requested by
the fair management. Each exhibitor must personally care for the animal
during the feeding period, or required tenure of ownership. (Attending
school or college away from home, or working away from home for an
extended period may be considered cause for ineligibility). Failure to comply
with this rule may result in disqualification, forfeiture of premiums, and
exclusion from participation in the livestock auction.
5. All animals must be exhibited in the show ring by the owner unless special
permission is granted by the board of directors. Then, only by other youth
between eight and 19 years of age.
6. All purebred animals shown must be owned by the exhibitor and must be
registered in the name of the exhibitor, the only exception being horses and
ponies which maybe leased provided that an approved lease form has been
filed at the extension office no later than May 1 current year. No partnership
agreements.
7. All livestock exhibitors are subject to Illinois health regulations which are
included in this fairbook.
8. All entries must be made either to the Junior Fair Secretary, Farm Bureau
Building, 4201 N. Columbus St., Ottawa, Illinois or LaSalle County
Extension Office, 1689 N. 31st Rd., Suite 2, Ottawa, Illinois, no later than
June 21st at 4:30 p.m.
ENTRY FEES AND STALL FEES must accompany entry blanks.
9. Animals will be accepted after 12:00 noon. Thursday, July 9, and must
be on the grounds by 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 9. Check department
areas for specific times.
10. No animals or other exhibits can be removed from the grounds until notice
is given by the General Superintendent at 5:00 p.m. and must be removed
from stalls by 7:00 p.m. Sunday, July 12. This rule STRICTLY ENFORCED.
Failure to comply may result in forfeiture of all premiums and other awards.
11. No person except exhibitors will be permitted in the ring while animals are
being judged. Exhibitor is responsible for having livestock and other
exhibits in the show ring at the time classes are called.
12. Each exhibitor will show only one breed in each section, with the exception
of the Market Beef Classes of Department A, Purebred Beef, and Rabbit
Classes of Department H.
13. Use and possession of intoxicating beverages and drugs for livestock and
human consumption strictly prohibited on grounds.
14. Each exhibitor will be responsible for keeping their pens and stables clean
and bedded.
15. All feed boxes, pails, etc. must be kept neatly stored, and alley ways must
be kept cleared and clean at all times.
16. No exhibitor will be permitted to reserve pens or stalls for feed and equipment
at their own discretion.
17. Exhibitors display their exhibits at their own risk.
18. No exhibitors will be allowed to stay overnight at the LaSalle County 4-H
Show and Junior Fair prior to, during, or after the fair.
19. The Junior Fair Board reserves the authority to combine or create new
classes, if number warrants this to make a better show.
20. All animals presented for exhibition must be free of any artificial attach
ments or practices that would alter their natural conformation and/or color.
21. All exhibits must be in place at designated times unless previously excused
by specie superintendent. Excused late entries only given for specific
breed shows. Late entries must have written approved excuses signed by
specie superintendent at least two weeks prior to the fair.
22. NO EXHIBITOR WILL BE PERMITTED TO LEAVE LIVESTOCK
TRAILERS AT THE FAIRGROUNDS, STARTING THURSDAY,
JULY 9TH. ONE LIVESTOCK TRAILER WILL BE AVAILABLE ON
THE PREMISES FOR EMERGENCIES.
23. No use of animal tranquilizers or injectable drugs of any sort will be permitted
on any animal exhibited by any exhibitor during the fair.
24. Showmanship categories are as follows: Junior (ages 8-10 years old as of
Sept. 1, 2008); Intermediate (ages 11-13 years old as of Sept. 1, 2008); and
Senior (ages 14 years old and older as of Sept. 1, 2008) unless otherwise noted.
25. While on the fairgrounds, livestock are to be cared for by the exhibitor
or his or her immediate family. NO PROFESSIONAL FITTERS OF
LIVESTOCK WILL BE ALLOWED.
