University of Illinois Extension provides practical, research-based information and programs to help individuals, families, farms, businesses and communities in Illinois. Its mission in short, is to help the citizens of Illinois put knowledge to work. The contribution of volunteers in the following areas is essential to the achievement of this mission.
More that 430 volunteers contribute their time and talents to the Extension program in Lake County. Learn how you can help others with the knowledge and experiences gained from Extension education. Volunteer opportunities with our office include:
4-H Youth Program 4-H is a voluntary, informal educational program for boys and girls ages 8-18.
Extension Advisory Council Volunteers The council is responsible for assisting staff with the planning and coordinating of University of Illinois Extension programs.
Lessons for Living, Public Speaking Volunteers Individuals interested in giving public presentations are taught "Lesson for Living" programs by University of Illinois Extension Educators.
Master Gardener Volunteers Master Gardeners receive sixty hours of training from mid-January to the end of March.
All volunteers working with youth are screened prior to undertaking assignments.
