New Rules in Place for 4-H
For the second year, we are requiring 4-H'ers who wish to be able to exhibit at the Kendall County 4-H Fair and Show, to attend at least one club meeting and a minimum of three additional meetings /event for a total of 4. One of these should be a community service activity. Youth will need to be active participants in their club and county. (See the "Happy New Year" article on page 3 for a listing of all the activities we offer yearly.) Clubs are required to offer a minimum of six (6) meetings during the year to qualify as a Community Club, which then is eligible for premiums. In Kendall County, we know this won't affect many clubs, as most clubs currently offer monthly meetings. For individuals to be able to participate in all the 4-H fun, enrollment forms need to be in our office by Dec. 1.
Clubs need to have their treasurer's book in by then also. Youth have to choose at least one project to be enrolled in 4-H. Remember that 4-H premium money/wristbands for free entry to the fair, including : Kendall County 4-H Public Presentation Contest, 4-H Horse Show, 4-H Dog Show, 4-H Clothing Judging/Fashion Revue and the Kendall County 4-H Fair will only be available to the 4-H'ers fulfilling these requirements:
· Attend one club meeting and three additional meetings/events.
· Member of a club that offers six meetings during the 4-H year.
Youth Individual 4-H Project Books Not included in Program Fee
4-H members need to consider project choices carefully for clubs/members since it is your responsibility for costs of all materials ordered including the shipping costs. Book prices are included in the Illinois Clover and found on our website at http://web.extension.uiuc.edu/ken-dall/4hyouth2591.html. To keep shipping costs low, materials are shipped to the 4-H office. Leaders are notified when supplies arrive: payment is due upon pick up. The 2009-10 Summary of Project and Publication Changes information is in the August-September newsletter and online at http://web.extension.uiuc.edu/kendall/4hyouth2590.html.
$20 Program Fee Required by State
This year Kendall County 4-H is collecting a $20 program fee, mandated by the state, from each 4-H Club member, with $6 going to the state level. This fee will provide insurance, educational, technical and other support for our 4-H youth, so we can maintain high quality programs for our youth and volunteers. Families with more than three 4-H members only have to pay $60. The $20 program fee, which includes insurance costs, is due upon enrollment. Since all clubs are covered by blanket policies, we do not have to take out separate policies for each county event.
Submit Audited 4-H Club Books Now
All club treasurers' books need to be turned in as soon as possible. You can bring them to the Extension Office on November 2 leaders meeting, so your club can be re-enrolled. Every club that has a treasury needs to submit their books audited. An adult and another 4-H member, not the treasurer or the parents of the treasurer, must do the auditing. Even someone from outside 4-H or an adult from another 4-H club can audit the books. If your club does not have a treasury, the 4-H office will need a signed statement to that effect. Congrats to Barnstormers, Kendall County Country Kids, and Little Rockets who are the 4-H clubs that already have their audited treasurer's books turned in. Backyard Buddies, Barn and Beyond Lisbon Town and Country, Midnight Riders and Rockin' K.C.'s 4-H clubs are the only clubs that do not have their secretary's book turned in. The 4-H office requires a copy of the club Secretary Book to be on file.
Dec. 1 is First Enrollment Deadline
4-H members make sure your Leaders have your enrollment form before the Dec. 1, 2009 deadline. The club and individual enrollments are due to the 4-H Office by this date, with youth enrolled in at least one project. For ordering books it would help if you choose all your projects by this date, so you only have to order books once and save shipping costs.
Enrollment of Leaders and Jr. Leaders
All 4-H Leaders and Project Leaders must complete an annual enrollment form to be recognized at the annual Achievement Night. Send these forms to the Extension Office as soon as possible but by Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009 at 4:30 p.m. This deadline applies to the 4-H treasurer book. No member s are enrolled, without submitting the Treasurers' book.
2009-10 Project/Publication Changes
Pygmy goats are listed as a county project on enrollment forms, but they are supported by the state, so there will be a premium for Pygmy goats, providing the members enrolls in the 4-H Meat Goat project.
You will find all of the changes in the August/
September newsletter and on our website at http://web.extension.uiuc.edu/kendall/4hyouth2590.html.
