This program will help students learn to do exactly what its title says: to learn to better understand people by sharing their experiences. Students will learn what it might be like for some people, who, because of growing older, are no longer able to see, hear or get around as well as when they were young.
Students will:
- Identify attitudes about aging and older people.
- Dispel myths and stereotypes about older people.
- See the physical changes that occur, as people grow older.
- Understand how living with physical and sensory change affects older people.
- Learn to communicate with older adults.
- Develop linkages across generations - within families and communities.
Instructional Materials Provided: A teacher's guide/student materials. Available are aging sensitivity kits for students to participate the simulated aging activities. Extension staff will assist with this program.
