SERIES lessons use activities, highlighting the concepts and processes listed below. Modules offered:
"Chemicals are Us" (Kitchen Chemistry)
To understand that chemicals are a part of everyday life, to observe chemical changes, to provide participants with experiences to explore their understanding of chemicals and begin to use the science process skills as they develop critical thinking skills.
"Beyond Duck and Cover"
(Can a building built on Jell-O withstand an earthquake?)
To enhance emergency preparedness through discussion and action, to prepare a disaster plan, to discover how building materials and design make a bridge strong or weak, test structures on different ground conditions.
"Recycle/Reuse"
(Will a glass bottle still be around in 4990?)
To identify naturally occurring cycles and to understand that cycles are a part of our everyday life, and to visually see by use of a time line how long products will take if ever to decompose.
Instructional Materials Provided: Extension staff will provide all materials and lead sessions. Please plan in advance as preparation for these lessons take time.
