According to the Centers for Disease Control, "Hand washing is the most important means of preventing the spread of infection in early childhood and school settings."
Hands are the most common way to spread or pick up germs. By developing habits of hand washing and cleanliness in young children, you can help them stay healthier throughout their lives.
U of I Extension in cooperation with several county health departments has developed a hand-washing program designed for early elementary grades. This interactive program is designed to teach proper hand washing. Approximately 30 minutes per classroom. Topic areas included in the activity are:
¯Why,¯When, and¯How to wash hands.
Instructional Materials Provided: Extension staff will assist with this activity in your classroom. Teacher's guide with a lesson outline, background information, parent handout, experiments, and instructions is available. Kit contains a black light and lotion that are used to show how germs can hide, and how proper hand washing is needed to remove germs.
