University of Illinois Extension Kankakee Unit is offering our signature Incubation and Embryonic Development program again this year. The training class is being held at 4:30 p.m. on March 5, 2008 at the Extension Office. Reservations for the class are required byFebruary 27. Three CPDU credits are available to class participants. Teachers who have previously attended the training are not required to attend each year, but many find that a yearly refresher is helpful.

The embryology program training topics include: Chickens and eggs in the economy, What is a chicken? -the origin and development of present day domestic chickens, What is an egg? The principals of incubation, The classroom incubator, Incubation procedures and techniques, The stages of embryonic development, Preservation of embryos, and Disposing of the chicks. Most important, The University of Illinois Extension Incubation and Embryonic Development Project covers Illinois State Learning Standards in multiple disciplines including biological and physical sciences, fine arts, physical development and health, language arts, mathematics, and social sciences. The lesson plans are available online and materials in the training provide teachers with resources for a very comprehensive interdisciplinary unit. There is no charge for participants who live or work in Kankakee County. Participants from outside the county are charged $10.00 for the class and $12.00 for the eggs. You may register for the class by phone 933-8337, fax 933-8532 or e-mail kankakee_co@extension.uiuc.edu. You may also fill out the registration forms on this website. We need your fertile egg reservations by April 1. Egg pick-up will be April15 from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m.
