4-H/Youth Foundation Announces Scholarships
The Kankakee County 4-H/Youth Foundation recently announced the awarding of $1,000 scholarships to eight individuals; four of whom are graduating high school seniors and four who are presently pursuing college degrees.
High school recipients are:
, daughter of Jeffery and Sheryl Brooks, Reddick
Rachel Hamende, daughter of Brian and Donna Hamende, Bourbonnais
Adam Moritz, son of Phillip and Kristi Moritz, Buckingham
Laura Yohnka, daughter of Keith and Lisa Yohnka, Momence
The four college student recipients are:

Charlotte Hanson, daughter of Tom and Barb Hanson, Chebanse
Jennifer O'Donnell, daughter of John and Pat O'Donnell, Reddick
Jessica White, daughter of James and Kathleen White, Kankakee
All scholarship recipients were selected on the basis of academic excellence, involvement in extra curricular activities, community service, and participation in 4-H.
Registration for Kankakee County Extension Programs is now in progress. Make new friends and pursue your interests in Theatre Camp, Science Camp and Camp Clover.
Camp Clover is a half day program that meets four days. Crafts, songs games and other activities in science, social science, fine arts and health and wellness fill each camp session. This program is for students who have completed grades 3 through 6.
June 6 – 9 ~ 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. ~ Kankakee Community Resource Center
July 17 – 20 ~ 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. ~ Pembroke
July 24 – 27 ~ 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. ~ Sun River Terrace
August 8 – 11 ~ 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. ~ Lisieux Center
Theatre Camp lets you be the performer, stage hand and creator in this weeklong half day camp. $5.00 material fee. This program is for students who have completed grades 5 through 7.
June 12 – 16 ~ 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. ~ Kankakee Community Resource Center
Wonder Wise Science Camp helps you be a wildlife biologist. This program is for students who have completed grades 5 through 7.
June 19 – 22 ~ 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. ~ Kankakee Community Resource Center
Download registration forms from the U of I Extension, Kankakee County web-site at ww.extension.uiuc.edu/kankakee. Registration is required with registration form, medical form and photo release. Registration closes 1 week prior to the first day of camp.
New! Kankakee County Fair Activities
Kankakee County Fair will be the place to be August 2-6. 4-H is expanding their involvement with late afternoon and evening activities for families. 4-H clubs will present games, demonstrations and other activities in the Creative Arts Building. In addition to yummy treats and rides, you can also do fun educational activities for ages 5 to 7 and 8 to 12 year old youth. All events would last 15 minutes and begin on the half hour.
