Gary Schnitkey and Dale Lattz, Farm Management Extension Specialists from University of Illinois in Urbana, delivered a most helpful presentation about how to make cash rent or crop share decisions, as well as how to manage risk on the farm. Briefly, they emphasized the importance of maintaining good relations between landowner and the operator; how to calculate cash rent based on average crop yield and average cost of commodity; and that is better to enter into annual, written cash rent agreements. More was said in the 3-hour program. However, if you missed it, you have another chance to hear similar information online.
