Foods judging will be held on Tues., July 7 at Wesley United Methodist Church, Bradley. This year, Foods Judging will be on a first-come basis. Upon arriving, the 4-H'er will check in at the 4-H Information Center. There he/she will be given a judging time. While waiting, 4-H'ers and parents can participate in the Foods Skill-A-Thon. Judging begins at 6:00 p.m. and ends at 8:00 p.m. From 8:00 to 9:00 p.m., State Fair selections are made.
Food Skill-A-Thon Helpers Needed
Helpers are needed for Foods Judging Activity, Tuesday, July 7. 4-H'ers may go to several Food Skill-A-Thon stations and show how much they have learned from their food project manual. Older 4-H'ers may assist with this activity.
All 4-H Clothing Projects will be judged on Wednesday, July 15 beginning at 9 a.m. at Wisner Hall, Olivet Nazarene University. Parking is available for participants in the lot to the east of Wisner Hall and in the lot across the street to the south. Page 5 of the 4-H Fair Book has the club schedule for judging time. Morning judging consists of the 4-H'er being judged individually – wearing the garment and discussing it with the judge in designated judging areas. All 4-H members should be prepared for judging 10-15 minutes before scheduled judging time.
· Construction exhibitors do not wear their accessories when being judged.
· Purchasing exhibitors may wear accessories during judging.
All garments remain at Wisner after judging. They are then transported to the fairgrounds for display. Do not take your garment home!
**Important** 4-H'ers may leave for lunch only if accompanied by an adult (parent, grandparent, aunt, etc.) If arrangements have been made for the 4-H'er to go to eat with another adult (not a relative), please send a note with the 4-H'er. 4-H'ers staying all day need to bring a sack lunch and drink.
After morning judging, 4-H'ers need to go to the auditorium for modeling practice. Afternoon judging is a mandatory style show at which time State Fair Dress Revue models are chosen. Other special award winners are also selected at this time. Morning award winners are announced also.
If there is a member in your 4-H club who has a disability (whether it is physical, emotional, learning, etc.) there is an option in the fair program to let the judges know that a child has a disability. Main club leaders should contact the Extension Office, 815/933-8337 to make this entry.
Conference judging will be held in the project areas of Foods, Clothing, and General Projects. If the 4-H'er is unable to be present for a judging event, he/she may send the project with another person. The project must be accompanied by the Kankakee County Exhibit Report Form. This form is found on the county website. Leaders also have copies of this form. It is recommended that loose papers such as Exhibit Report Form, patterns and recipes be placed in a clear plastic sheet protector to keep papers clean and organized.
The Awesome Achiever Award began four years ago as a way to recognize 4-H'ers who were too young to be chosen as State Fair Delegate or Alternate but who had done an outstanding job on their 4-H exhibit. The first year there were 2 project areas. The second, year there were 4 project areas. This year there will be 6 project areas: Woodworking, Aerospace, Computer, Photography, Child Development and Electricity.
4-H Project Watching Opportunities
We now have two 4-H Project Watching opportunities. 4-H Project Watching will be at Northfield Square Mall as well as the Creative Arts Building at the Kankakee County Fairgrounds. Club leaders have sign-up sheets with the new times. Sign up and enjoy the interaction with the shoppers at the mall and visiting with the fair goers at the County Fair.
Please note the location and dates for Judging Events listed in the 4-H Fairbook.
Information about this workshop has been mailed to 4-H'ers enrolled in the 4-H Welding project. The information has also been posted on the county website. The workshop will be held on Saturday, June 13 at KCC. Another workshop will be held in the fall.
When you choose a project to take, please remember what is printed in the Illinois Clover under each project are the expectations of what can be learned, and suggestions for what can be done within that particular project. These are not exhibit requirements for the project. A good idea is to keep your 4-H Fair Book and refer to the exhibit requirements when deciding what projects to take.
