Summer, 2009
Federation Happenings

Kankakee County 4-H Federation Meetings

The July 13 meeting will be at the 4-H Federation Foodstand to prepare the foodstand for the fair. The August 3 meeting will be held at the Federation Foodstand to clean up after the fair.

Kankakee County 4-H Federation Foodstand Assistant Coordinators

Assistant coordinators are needed to supervise daily shifts. The Kankakee County 4-H Federation voted to pay for a 1-day admission pass to the fair for adult volunteers who act as shift coordinators.

Daily shifts are 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to clean up (10:30-11:00 p.m.) Duties include: instructing clubs as they report for their shift, monitor supply inventory, make money drops (if necessary), and make sure food sanitation guidelines are being followed. Please contact the Extension Office if you can assist in this area.

Federation Foodstand Opportunities

One time slot still needs to be filled to work at the Foodstand by 4-H clubs. If there is no one to work this shift, the Foodstand may have to close for that time slot. This means lost income, so lost profit. Income from the Foodstand supports ALL 4-H'ers and volunteers. Please call the Extension Office if you can help at times other than your club's assigned time. Workers are needed to assist with selling in the Grandstand at night. Adults, older 4-H'ers and younger 4-H'ers may do this.

4-H Workers Needed

Each 4-H'er is expected to work a shift in the foodstand. If you are unable to work during your club's scheduled shift, check with the Extension Office to see about working during another shift.

The profit made from the foodstand helps pay for:

· 4-H Project Manuals

· 4-H Window Display Contest Awards

· 4-H Recognition Banquet

· Scholarships to attend conferences

· Other miscellaneous expenses

Please make sure that you make every effort to volunteer with your club to work your shift during the fair. Encourage your friends and relatives to eat there!

Federation Pop Tabs

We are still collecting pop tabs. Federation collects the tabs for Ronald McDonald House. Families may stay at these houses when they have a child seeking treatment at a medical center. Please turn in your pop tabs at the Extension office. Thanks for those who have already donated.

4-H Federation Cookbooks

4-H Federation cookbooks are available in the Extension Office. Cost is $14. Federation will be selling them at the Kankakee County Fair and other summer events as well.
