May/June 2008
Leader Connection

Kids with Disabilities

If there is a member in your 4-H club who has a disability (whether it is physical, emotional, learning, etc.) there is an option in the fair program to let the judges know that a child has a disability. Main club leaders should contact the Extension Office, 815/933-8337 to make this entry.

4-H Judges

Suggestions are needed for potential judges for upcoming 4-H Judging Events. The potential judge should not have any direct connection to 4-H youth in Kankakee County. When recommending a person, make sure it is okay with the person to give their name, and make sure they understand there is a judges training that he/she must attend.

Dairy Promotion

If your club plans to do something in June for Dairy Promotion, or wants to know more about this activity, contact the Extension Office.

Risk Management

Permission slips must be filled out every time your club does an activity outside of the regular meeting time and/or location. Also, health forms (in sealed envelopes) should be carried by a designated adult to each activity. Drivers of 4-H youth should be at least 21 years of age and have copies of their driver's license and current insurance card on file at the Extension Office.

Club Constitution and By-Laws

Clubs should review their club constitution and by-laws yearly. After reviewing, and making changes, if necessary, each family should have a copy of the club constitution and by-laws. In addition, a copy should be on file in the Extension Office, along with the club information form.

4-H Recognition Night

Are you a 4-H leader, superintendent, assistant superintendent or volunteer? Would you like to be thanked for your hard work? Come to the 4-H Recognition Night! Your meal is paid for by donors who appreciate all you do. 4-H Recognition Night is for everyone who has a part in the 4-H & Youth programs in Kankakee County. Adults, as well as youth, are recognized at this annual event. This year's Recognition Night will be held on Sunday, November 23, 2008. Location is yet to be determined.
