Volunteer Assistance Needed

Assistance is needed for General Projects, Foods, and Clothing Judging Days. We need parents, leaders or adult volunteers to help us with assisting judges during conference judging times. Please contact the Extension office, 815/933-8337 to sign up. If possible, we would like 3 recorders from each club for each event.

Foods Judging

Foods judging will be held on Tuesday, July 8 (note date change) at Wesley United Methodist Church, Bradley. Foods Judging will be on a first come basis. Upon arriving, the 4-H'er will check in at the 4-H Information Center. Here he/she will be given a judging time. While waiting, 4-H'ers and parents participate in the Foods Skill-A-Thon. Judging begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 8:00 p.m. From 8:00 to 9:00 p.m., State Fair selections are made.

Kankakee County 4-H General Projects Judging

2008 Kankakee County 4-H General Projects Judging will again be held at Northfield Square Mall. The judging will take place on Saturday, July 26 from 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. 4-H projects will be on display at Northfield Square Mall on Saturday and Sunday.

On Sunday afternoon, there will be a 4-H Showcase giving the general public a view as to what 4-H is all about. Each club will need people on Sunday to assist with collecting the club members' projects to go to the fairgrounds.

At 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, each club will pick up the club members' projects and transport them to the Kankakee County Fairgrounds where the individual club displays will be assembled.

Assistance will be needed in several areas to assist with the success of this event. Friday – strong, able-bodied people will be needed to help set up the judging areas and the 4-H Information Command Post. People will be needed on Saturday to assist with setting up the display area. People will also be needed to monitor the displays on Saturday and Sunday (same thing as project watching at the fair). If you are able to help in any way, please call the Extension Office. Everyone working together will make this a great endeavor!

Kankakee County Fair Display Theme

Family Traits - This theme may be used for 4-H Fair Club Displays and October 4-H Window Display. Exhibit requirements are the same as last year. Please let Joyce know if your club will not have a fair display. If you need more exhibit space, please request this in writing by July 1.

Fair Work Days

Do you like to bring your exhibit to the fair to a nice, clean building that is all set up and ready to go? Your help is needed on specific barn workdays, and at the Creative Arts Building Workday. Many hands make light work. This is a good time to get acquainted with 4-H people from other parts of the county.

It takes a huge amount of work to get the fairgrounds ready for our County Fair. Kankakee County Fairboard members will be holding workdays at the fairgrounds every Saturday beginning in July in order to prepare for the big event. This is an ideal community service project for 4-H club participation. Make time to lend a hand for an hour, a morning or even the whole day. Be sure to include your participation in your 4-H records.
