Saturday, June 27, 2009, 7:00 a.m. – Noon. 4-H members are needed to assist at the Farmers' Market in downtown Kankakee. 4-H'ers and volunteers are needed to help set up displays as well as take them down after the event. Information about 4-H and Extension will be handed out to interested people. 4-H'ers are needed to show what they have learned while working on their projects. Since June is Dairy month, a club may want to have a Dairy promotion. Participation at this event will count on your 4-H records. Call Joyce or Holly at the Extension Office, 815/933-8337.

University of Illinois 4-H Youth Development is currently recruiting host families for 50 Japanese youth and their adult chaperones for an American home stay July 23- August 20, 2009.

The 4-H Japanese Exchange program consists of youth who are learning to speak English in language acquisition programs. Like 4-H clubs, the Japanese programs (LEX and LABO) meet monthly to help youth become more fluent in English and base their activities around the family unit.

Japanese youth, ranging in age from 12-17, are placed in an American family with a host brother or sister. These visitors are thrilled to be coming to the United States and look forward to learning from their host brother/sister and their new family, while improving their ability to use the English language, said Million.

The Northern Illinois 4-H Camp Association – Camp Shaw is available for youth camp, extreme camp, family camp, and rental group programs. In addition there are opportunities for trail riding. Brochures are available in the Extension Office or online at http://campshaw.org/.

The record judging process will begin in September. Adult volunteers are needed to assist with this task. Contact the Extension Office if you are able to help on the following dates:
