Spring Gardening Classes
5/7/09 - Hostas—Stars of the Shade Garden:
Hostas are the stars of the shade garden, but they are not prima donnas. Dependable perennials, hostas are available in many sizes and offer an endless variety of foliage color and texture. This class will cover the growing requirements of hostas, the many varieties available, landscape uses, slugs and other challenges, with plenty of opportunity for Q & A.
5/21/09 - Creating Habitats for Wildlife:
The activities and antics of wildlife can be wonderful attributes of home landscapes. This class will teach you how to lure in birds, butterflies and other wildlife to make them feel welcome by providing the food and shelter they require.
6/4/09 - Pretty Enough to Eat!
There is no need to start a separate garden just for vegetables when you can easily integrate them into your existing beds and borders. Learn new ideas for growing vegetables throughout your landscape and enjoy the healthy bounty from spring to fall.
6/11/09 - Water Gardening—Beginners:
Water gardening can bring a garden to life by adding sparkle, motion and sound. Learn the basics from creating to maintaining a water garden, how to choose and care for plants and how to successfully put it all together.
6/18/09 - Dwarf & Unusual Conifers:
Dwarf conifers come in many different sizes, colors, and forms. Using them in the landscape can add interest and color four-season long. This class has great photos and plenty of how-to information.
All classes are on THURSDAYS from 10:00am to 11:30am at the University of Illinois Extension, 535 S. Randall Road, St. Charles, IL.
The cost for each class is $15.
