Extension works with agencies, policymakers, industry, community leaders and homeowners to keep our ecosystems healthy and sustainable. Extension helps groups and governments to manage natural resources, ensure water quality, conserve topsoil, and redevelop underutilized urban lands.

DNA and how it works. How crops are modified to enhance yield or pest resistance. What are genetically enhanced products and how are they being used?

Time: A variety of formats are available from 1/2 to 4 hours.

Learn what makes soil alive. A variety of experiments that can easily be incorporated into the classroom.

  • Science in Your Shopping Cart

Learn how agriculture affects everyday life.

Time: A variety of formats are available from 1/2 to 4 hours.

  • Illinois Agriculture is All Around Us!

Targeted for grade schools.This program explores the science and careers associtated with agriculture. America helps feed the world: how is it done? Of the 34 million acres in Illinois, more than 26 million are used for agricultural purposes. Historical advancements in production brought on by machinery, hybridization and genetic engineering will all be addressed.

Time: 50 minutes

Audience: Grades 4-7

  • A Geologic History of Illinois

Targeted for grade schools.Illinois now has a temperate climate and is part of the Corn Belt, but that was not always the case! Follow the evolution of Illinois from a shallow ocean located near the equator through the time of dinosaurs and the big freeze brought on by glaciers. Why have we found no sign of dinosaurs in our state, and why do we have coal? This and much more will be shared in this presentation.

Time: 50 minutes

Audience: Youth (maximum size 20)
