4-H'ers who plan to exhibit animals in the 2007 Illinois State Fair Jr. Department will be expected to show evidence of having completed the Quality Assurance and Ethics Clinic Training required by the state. Training only needs to be completed once during the 4-H'ers 4-H career. Ethics training must be completed by exhibitors in the beef, swine, sheep, dairy and horse areas. Training may be taken on-line at http://qaec.outreach.uiuc.edu The online version will be available March 1.
Illinois Pork & Lamb Premiere
Requirements for the Illinois State Fair Pork & Lamb Premiere programs are:
Swine - pigs must be farrowed on or after February 10. Each exhibitor may enter a maximum of 25 barrows at the time of tattooing. Barrows must be castrated, ear-notched, nominated and tattooed before they are 35 days old. Deadline to tattoo is April 15.
Sheep
must be nominated, weighed and tattooed between March 15 and May 15.
All swine and sheep must be castrated before being tattooed. If you wish to have your animals tattooed for State Fair, the weigh-in date for Carroll Co. is April 21, from 9:00 - noon at Terry Bocker's near Lanark. All sheep have to be weighed, tattooed and electronically ID'd.
Superintendents Needed for the 4-H Fair
Sheep, beef, cat ,dairy, general projects, visual arts, & foods areas all are in need of superintendents to help run those areas during fair week. Call for office for more information on responsibilities or if you would like to volunteer.
Attendance Policy Reminder
To be eligible to exhibit at the Carroll Co. 4-H Fair, 4-H'ers must attend 2/3 of club meetings after enrollment with exceptions of excused absences for illness, church or school activity. Each 4-H'er must call your leader prior to the 4-H meeting to receive an excused absence.
State Fair Plans
Any adults thinking about staying in the dorms at State Fair must go through the volunteer screening now. Volunteers must submit their paper work by May 1. Leader's are already covered, it would be any other adults planning to stay in the dorms.
