Fair in the Air

Section

Livestock Premise ID will not be required at fairs this summer. The Premise ID will not be mandatory until 2010. The Illinois Department of Ag has rescinded the "mandatory" requirement for Premise ID numbers for the 2008 Illinois county, 4-H, FFA and State Fairs. If someone has already registered, you can remove your name from the registry.

Fair Book Cover Winners -

Front Cover - Alexandra Kronenberg, 13, Milledgeville Hotshots

Back Cover - Victoria Kronenberg 15, Milledgeville Hotshots

Other entries were submitted by Tessa Adolph, Mary Francque, & Katie Kronenberg. Good job everyone!

State Fair Premium Books - Animal class entry forms will need to be printed off of the web or picked up at the Extension Office and all entries will still need to be submitted via the Extension Office. The web address where the premium books can be found is http://agr.state.il.us/isf/premium/index/html

State Fair Dorm Screening - With the return of conference judging more people will want to spend the night when traveling to the State Fair. There are dorm like rooms offered to all 4-H'ers and their families to stay in while at the State Fair for free. All adults that wish to stay in these dorms must complete an Illinois State Police and DCFS background check before they stay in the dorms. This process could take a few months and needs to be renewed every 5 years. Anyone who is interested needs to contact the Office for correct forms.

State Fair Animal Fees - all Jr. exhibitors will need to pay entry fees for any/all animals entered. Fees will be due with class entries.

Beef, Dairy, Horses- $10 per head

Sheep, Swine, Goats- $2.50 per head

Dogs - $2.00 per head

Poultry, Rabbits - $1.00 per head

Reminder - for General Projects judging day, put all loose papers in a clear plastic sleeve.

Bricks - The 4-H Exhibit Building Fund is selling bricks for the memory walk way again this year in the exhibit building. You can buy a brick in your name, someone else's or a business or a club. Order deadline is June 15, 2008. Bricks are $50 each. Contact the office for an order form, or go on line to our county website.

Additional Sponsors Needed for 2008 4-H Fair - Plaque, general projects and home ec. Project sponsorship letters will soon be going out to past 4-H fair donors. New and additional sponsors are needed for all three areas.

Perhaps you could help by asking different businesses or individuals if they would be interested in sponsoring a plaque or award.

Plaque donations are $20 each and General & Home Ec. Project awards are $25 each.

Please let the Extension Office know of the names and addresses of possible new sponsors. We will take care of getting a sponsorship letter out to them.

Silent Auction Baskets - Clubs are reminded that they will need to turn in the theme of their silent auction basket at the June 4th Leader's meeting. The auction was a huge success last year so we will be doing it again during fair week.

Baskets will need to be in place at the fairgrounds by 2 pm on August 3, before the BBQ. A list of basket's contents needs to brought along with it.
