Soybean Cyst Nematod Soil Analysis Clinics
Soybean Cyst Nematode (SCN) Soil Analysis Clinics
Friday, September 21, 2007
Two Locations:8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Stephenson Service, Rt. 78, Stockton
12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Crop Production Services, Rt. 72/73, Lanark
SCN Clinics are open to all crop farmers and crop advisors at no cost. Participants can bring in soil samples from each field to be reviewed. Either existing corn or soybean fields may be sampled. A composite soil sample taken at the field entrance, at a low lying area or in an area of poorly performing soybean plants often shows the first presence of SCN. Soybean cyst nematodes are microscopic worm-like organisms which parasitically attack and feed within soybean roots. Severe SCN plant infestation levels can be seen as field areas of yellow or stunted or wilted soybeans. The objective of the SCN clinic is to provide growers information concerning SCN infestation in their suspect fields and give management suggestions. For more info, please contact Mark Maidak, at 815-244-9444 or 815-858-2273 or mmaidak@uiuc.edu
