Cloverbuds

The Illinois 4-H Cloverbud curriculum was originally designed for Cloverbud 4-H Clubs within the community. However, there are many great resources and ideas which are very suitable for the early elementary classroom or afterschool program. The curriculum can supplement existing curriculum, or you may start a Cloverbud 4-H Club right in your classroom. Activity ideas are designed for easy implementation with readily available low-cost supplies. There are over 25 lesson plans in the following topic areas:

  • Healthy lifestyles
  • Plants and animals
  • Science and technology
  • Community expressive arts
  • Environmental and earth science
  • Personal development
  • Citizenship and civic education
  • Consumer and family science

Materials Available: Cloverbud program notebook.

Duration: Lessons can last 30-75 minutes. Pick and choose according to interest and grade level.

Illinois Learning Standards: (These vary depending on lessons used.) Science: 11A – Know and apply the concepts, principles and processes of scientific inquiry. 12A – Know and apply concepts that explain how living things function, adapt and change. 12B – Know and apply concepts that describe how living things interact with each other and with their environment. 13B – Know and apply concepts that describe the interaction between science, technology and society. Social Science: 15B – Understand that scarcity necessitates choices by consumers. Physical Development and Health: 20B – Assess individual fitness levels. 21A – Demonstrate individual responsibility during group physical activities. 22A – Explain the basic principles of health promotion, illness prevention, and safety. 22C – Explain how the environment can affect health. 23B – Explain effects of health-related actions on the body systems. 24B – Demonstrate procedures for communicating in positive ways, resolving differences and preventing conflict. Fine Arts: 26 B – Apply skills and knowledge necessary to create and perform in one or more of the arts.
