WAY TO GO 4-H'ers! Each one of you did an excellent job with your exhibits for the 2008 4-H Fair. I would also like to thank the parents, families, volunteers, and leaders for all of your hard work to get ready for the fair and during the week of the fair. All of you are awesome, and I can't thank you enough for your help! It was a great week and I hope that everyone enjoyed their time at the fair, too!
Since the fair is over, and school is back in session, this marks the time of a new 4-H year. September 1 is the beginning of the 2008-2009 4-H year. Each club will be reorganizing in the next couple months, and we need everyone to help recruit new 4-H members. Also, if you know anyone that would be interested in becoming a leader, let the office know. We are always looking for new members and volunteers!
Don't forget that the records due date is approaching. Make sure that all of the information is included and complete before you turn them in! There should be a list of items that you need. Look inside this issue of the newsletter for full details.
If you should have any questions about the upcoming 2008-2009 4-H year, please contact the Extension Office. We are very excited about the new year and so should you!

at the Extension Office.
We will need to be looking at nominations for New officers and reorganizing for the new 4-H year.
I hope that you come and become a part of this county wide organization!!
We will also be working on plans for the Fall Bash.
If you are 12 years of age or older and have participated in
4-H for at least 3 years and are a Project Honor Member, you are eligible to become a part of the 4-H Federation. The Federation is an organization that plans and carries out county wide 4-H programs, develop leadership, cooperation and initiative in all 4-H members, and to further the development and to improve the quality of 4-H club work in Cumberland County. The meetings are normally held on the second Thursday of each month.
It is very important to have the 4-H youth involved in the planning and implement of programs throughout the county. New ideas and energy is always a key component when working with youth! You can have fun while making a difference in 4-H!
Each club should have two members representing their club in the Federation Council. This helps ensure that each part of the county is represented. Clubs need to send in the names of the two 4-H'ers who will serve as their Federation delegates as soon as they have been selected.
HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN SOMETHING?
We have a few projects that were left at the Miscellaneous Building from the fair. We have projects that belong to Paige Hatfill, Presley Hatfill, Katie Bell, Dalton Grissom, Teah Beals and Paige Holsapple. Please stop by the office to pick up your project!
WE ALSO HAVE A BLUE AND WHITE SHEEP HALTER THAT WAS FOUND AT THE FAIRGROUNDS. IF THIS IS YOURS WE HAVE IT!
Bring your 4-H Shows or Rule suggestions, changes and/or ideas for changes in writing to the Fair Wrap-Up meeting on Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Extension Office in Toledo.
If you cannot attend the meeting be sure that someone brings your ideas or you send them to the office. These are for ideas to help make the fair run smooth and efficiently.
Your ideas will be considered and discussed at the January Extension Council Meeting. This meeting is for Superintendents and Leaders.
There will be a Leader's meeting held on October 16, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Toledo Village Hall. Items that will be covered at the meeting will be the new items for the 2008-2009 4-H Year and to discuss things that needs to be added or changed to make things better. We deeply appreciate your dedication to the 4-H Program and what it has to offer and we would like your input as well. Therefore, bring some fresh new ideas to the meeting and we will discuss them. If you can not attend the meeting please contact the Extension Office with your ideas and concerns. We hope to see you there!!
It is that time of year already! We must be thinking about starting a new 4-H Year. September 1 begins the new year, and each club needs to be reorganizing in the next couple months. Each club needs to be electing new officers and be looking at the parliamentary procedures for effective and efficient meeting procedures. I encourage each club to announce all club rules and regulations at the beginning of the year meeting. If any 4-H'er has a question about the 4-H Program please ask their club leader or call the Extension Office. I would also like to see 4-H'ers recruiting new membership for the upcoming year. We are always looking for new members and word of mouth is the best source! 4-H is a great opportunity for youth to gain new skills and friendship and we do not want anyone to miss out!
If you are 8 years old by September 1, 2008, you are eligible to begin your career in the 4-H Program! You must be 10 years old by September 1, 2008 to be eligible to show at the 2009 State Fair.
If you know someone that is 5-7 years old as of September 1, 2008, they are eligible to participate in the Cloverbud program. We have 3 different Cloverbud Clubs throughout the county for them to enjoy!

4-H Clovers On Their Way!
Being that it is a new 4-H year, there will be new 4-H Clovers distributed. After attending the fair and different shows you have had the opportunity to see new and different projects that you might like to try. The new Clovers will soon be given to your club leader for them to pass out. This year's Clover has a new look and has four different sections: member handbook, 4-H projects, awards and recognition, and information for 4-H volunteers. Each project is organized by the new Mission Mandate areas. Be sure to look at the alphabetical listing at the front for easy guidance.
There are new projects for the 2008-2009 4-H year! Those projects are: Computer Science Intro and Levels 1-3, Dairy Goats Levels 1-3, Foods & Nutrition: 4-H Cooking 201 (Intermediate Level), Welding: Arcs and Sparks-Shielded Metal Arc Welding (grades 7 & up).
There are also new resources for 2008-2009. Those are Dairy Goat Helper's Guide, Sheep Helper's Guide, 4-H Parent Handbook, Helping You Help Youth fact sheet—Build Character (online only), and Vegetable Gardening (online only).
Be sure to look through the 4-H Clover when you receive it and try a new project this year! You never know what new adventures lie before you!!!!
Lindsay and Angie Vanatta would like to give a great big THANK YOU to whoever cleaned out Lindsay's lamb pen at the fair. We greatly appreciate it very much. Lindsay got back Thursday evening to clean it and it was already cleaned.
That was very kind of someone to help out like that. THANK YOU!
Thanks, Angie Vanatta
