Please take time to read through this newsletter. It contains a lot of information about upcoming events.
Well, another fair has come and gone, another summer has passed and school is once again in session.
The fair may seem like it just happens, but it takes a lot of effort from many different individuals to make everything happen when they need to happen.
Thanks to the superintendents and bookkeepers: Mark Niebrugge, Ray Flood, Ray Moses, Jeanette Niebrugge, Barbara June Dearing, Ed Wampler, Vernon Miller, Harve Moses, Roger Swingler, Cindy Moses, Charlie Sappington, Andy Potter, Jane Weaver, Bob Marti, Don Will, Pat Will, Mark Weaver, Jane Weaver, Janet Cox, Jane Miller, Don Frederick, Melvin and Connie Koester, and Max Woolever. Also a big thank you to Jay Maxey and Randy Flood for rebuilding the secretary's box at the show ring.
Thank you for all of your time and effort before, during and after the fair. Without you things would not run as smoothly.
We would like to thank Jeannie Weddell, Newton and Farm Credit Services, Charleston for taking pictures during the auction. We have those pictures at the office if you would like to order copies.
Also, thanks to all of the Auctioneers that put in their time to make the auction a great success.
And a big thank you goes to Sandy McCullough for making sure the 4-H Shake-up stand runs smoothly.
Thanks to all of the volunteers that made all of the shows move smoothly. The fair could have not gone smoothly without everyone. Also, thank you to everyone that stayed after the sale and helped clean up. It was a fun week and next year, we'll plan to do some of the same, some different things .
Don't forget to send your thank you notes or stop by and extend a personal thank you to your trophy sponsors, purchasers from the auction, etc., if you haven't already done so.
The new 4-H year has begun and activities will be plentiful. Keep a watch in upcoming newsletters for current events and information.
Don O. Frederick, County Director
Thanks to everyone who helped with Fair clean-up. A lot of necessary work was accomplished in a short amount of time. It takes cooperation from everyone involved to make things happen and members, parents, leaders and other volunteers pulled together to make work short.

Well as most of you already know I have left the position as the Community Worker in Cumberland County. This was a hard decision for me because I have gained great friendships with every one that is involved with the 4-H, this is includes the teacher that I have been in there classrooms and also all of the Volunteers that I know that I could count on. I would like to thank every one for all of the hard work throughout that year. Without you, things would not run very smoothly.
I would also like to thank all of the Superintendents and Bookkeepers that I had during the fair. Y our work starts before the fair and does not end when the fair stops. Thank you for dedication and hard work.
I would also like to thank all of the 4-Hers that helps set up and tear down. It is a great way to get to know every one in the heat of the day!! I would also like to thank you for not throwing me in the TANK this year and so do my BOOTS !!!!!! But also A thanks for Zach for getting me wet at the end!!!!!!
I wish all of you the best in the New 4-H year and please keep in touch. I will MISS YOU ALL DEARLY
As I would tell Cindy every day at the end of the day.. "I am out of here like a Bad habit ... But trust me I will be back!"

Do you live on a farm or in a rural area?
Do you or members of your family ride 4-wheelers?
Do members of your family ever visit a farm during planting, harvest, or hay season?
Do you have friends that live on a farm or in a rural area?
If you answered Yes to just one of these questions October 20 should be circled on your calendar for the first Farm Safety Day Camp scheduled to be held at the old Rural King building at the Village Square Mall in Effingham from 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
The program is designed for youth ages 8 - 14 to visit 8 different sessions highlighting safety issues including, fire safety, 4-wheel safety, grain safety, equipment safety, and drug and alcohol abuse information. Lunch will be provided for all participants
If you are not 8 – 14 years of age your assistance would be appreciated as a volunteer. Thirty adults and youth 15 years of age and older are needed to assist with the various stations as well as assist with registration and lunch preparation.
This Safety Day Camp is sponsored by the Progressive Farmer, Effingham and Jasper County Farm Bureau, along with the Effingham and Jasper County U of I Extension and Effingham Soil and Water Conservation Districts and various area businesses. Volunteers will receive a Farm Safety Day T-shirt and the pleasure of knowing you may have been a part of preventing an accident or even the loss of a life. The " Farm Safety Day Camp" is provided at no charge for the participants.
Teaching kids about the importance of farm safety isn't just a good idea – it could be a life-saving one. The future of agriculture lies in your hands. Please join us in supporting this worthwhile cause.
