ILLINOIS PORK PRODUCERS ASSOCIATION

County Ambassador and State Ambassador Program
IPPA has several opportunities for youth to learn more about and network within the pork industry. The most visible program is our County and State Ambassador program. Each year, pork ambassadors from across the state work to promote pork and the pork industry and to educate consumers in their communities about animal agriculture. Ambassadors DO NOT necessarily need to be from a county with an active county pork organization.
IPPA also selects one individual to serve as the Illinois Pork Ambassador/Intern each year. This person works as a part of the IPPA staff during the summer and serves as a youth spokesperson for the industry throughout the year There is a scholarship-based stipend for the Illinois Pork Ambassador. For more information visit www. ilpork.com or contact Abbi Brickey.

Illinois Pork Leadership Institute
Illinois youth are also invited to attend the Illinois Pork Leadership Institute (IPLI) each June. This year, IPLI will be a three-day tour in the Chicago land area. This program helps teach ambassadors about agribusinesses and the food chain past the farm gate. Some possibilities to visit this year are: Chicago Board of Trade, Culinary School at Joliet Junior College, a pork processing plant tour, Oberweis Dairy, and much more. There will also be an evening of sight-seeing in Chicago or a sporting event to attend.
Enclosed are guidelines and an application for the IPLI program. The deadline for applications to be received in the IPPA office is May 1, 2006.

IPPA Scholarship Opportunities
In addition to the Ambassador and IPLI programs, IPPA offers scholarships each year through its own scholarship program and through the IL Purebred Swine Council. Applications for these scholarships are also included in this mailing. The scholarship application deadline is May 15, 2006.
Thank you in advance for passing this information along to those in your programs who would benefit from them. For more information or questions on these programs, please contact the IPPA Director of Marketing and Education, Abbi Brickey at (217) 529-3100 or abbi@iloork.com.

We're Throwing OUT the Box

Start your summer off right! What box? We're Throwing Out the Box! is the theme of the 2006 Illinois 4-H Leadership Convention, scheduled for June 23-25 in Decatur. The convention has been redesigned to provide a more in-depth look at youth leadership, as well as provide all of the fun and socializing expected from a teen conference!

All teens ages 14-18 years old (by September 1, 2006) are invited and the convention is not limited to only 4-H members. So make sure you bring along a friend! From workshops to the National Guard-led team-building activities to the hypnotist on Saturday evening, this weekend is jam packed with learning, fun, and new friends. Scholarships are available for youth and adult "teams" from counties who wish to focus on one of three specialty workshop "tracks" in meth informational programs; youth in decision making; or military kids speak-outs. Plenty of other "real-life" workshops are available as well, focusing on cultural differences, parliamentary procedure, etiquette, interviews and portfolios, fun in sports, and more!

Full-time registration is $175, which includes your hotel, six meals and programming materials. (4-H members may be able to get scholarships!) We are also offering a "Saturday Only" registration for $60, which includes workshops and lunch. Don't miss this chance to meet new friends, and learn new skills that you can bring back to your club and community. Contact the Extension Office today for more information about registration and scholarship applications! Details will also be available via the Illinois 4-H website at: http://www.4-h.uiuc.edu/events/annual004.html.
