Cumberland County 4-H will again be selling pie to the patrons of the Toledo Fire Department's Chicken Dinner during the Toledo Spring Festival on Sunday, May 21.
It is suggested that each club donate at least nine fruit pies (No cream pies, please, due to health department regulations.) Leaders are encouraged to call the Extension Office to confirm pie donations. Pies should be delivered to the Toledo Fire Hall after 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 21.
Funds raised from this event go directly toward 4-H publication expenses, which eliminates each club having to cover publication costs.
Cumberland County 4H Clubs have been offered by a Greenup resident ,Mary Kuhn, to create a 4-H Garden in Greenup. Mary has a plot of land 104' by 50' that would be a great place to learn about a variety of garden crops while doing something good for the world.
Mary is interested in having 10% of the proceeds from the garden to benefit the Peace Meals.
Mrs. Kuhn's father has offered the use of a garden tiller. All that is needed is a 4-H group willing to plant and harvest.
We can do this as clubs or individuals or even with all of the clubs together. I have a lot of ideas for this garden and I bet you do too.
Let me know your ideas call me email me. If I get enough interest I will set a meeting date to plan all of the details out.
Please let me know so we can get our garden growing !!!!!!

ILLINOIS PORK PRODUCERS ASSOCIATION
County Ambassador and State Ambassador Program IPPA has several opportunities for youth to learn more about and network within the pork industry. The most visible program is our County and State Ambassador program. Each year, pork ambassadors from across the state work to promote pork and the pork industry and to educate consumers in their communities about animal agriculture. Ambassadors DO NOT necessarily need to be from a county with an active county pork organization. IPPA also selects one individual to serve as the Illinois Pork Ambassador/Intern each year. This person works as a part of the IPPA staff during the summer and serves as a youth spokesperson for the industry throughout the year There is a scholarship-based stipend for the Illinois Pork Ambassador. For more information visit www. ilpork.com or contact Abbi Brickey.
Illinois Pork Leadership Institute Illinois youth are also invited to attend the Illinois Pork Leadership Institute (IPLI) each June. This year, IPLI will be a three-day tour in the Chicago land area. This program helps teach ambassadors about agribusinesses and the food chain past the farm gate. Some possibilities to visit this year are: Chicago Board of Trade, Culinary School at Joliet Junior College, a pork processing plant tour, Oberweis Dairy, and much more. There will also be an evening of sight-seeing in Chicago or a sporting event to attend. Enclosed are guidelines and an application for the IPLI program. The deadline for applications to be received in the IPPA office is May 1, 2006.
IPPA Scholarship Opportunities In addition to the Ambassador and IPLI programs, IPPA offers scholarships each year through its own scholarship program and through the IL Purebred Swine Council. Applications for these scholarships are also included in this mailing. The scholarship application deadline is May 15, 2006.
Thank you in advance for passing this information along to those in your programs who would benefit from them. For more information or questions on these programs, please contact the IPPA Director of Marketing and Education, Abbi Brickey at (217) 529-3100 or abbi@iloork.com.
