Flowering Cherry Trees

A flowering cherry tree is one of my favorites because it helps spring come alive. The early flowering habit of this tree excites my inner being. These trees offer white to dark pink flowers. The really neat thing about them is they flower before they set their leaves. So the floral display is simply gorgeous.

The flowering cherry will make a great specimen plant. Most of the time these trees are found in borders along streets and other landscapes.

Flowering cherries grow best in well drained soils with full sun. A layer of mulch around them will help keep them safe from the weed eater. An annual application of a complete fertilizer will also benefit their survival.

The Kwanza Cherry is somewhat upright in its growth habit and produces masses of double pink blooms. This tree is also known as a Japanese Flowering Cherry.

The Weeping Cherry gives a relaxed display of dark pink flowers.

Black Cherries are the ones which grow here in the wild up to 60 feet tall. They have white flowers and yield tart edible berries.

The Yoshino Cherry is valued for its abundant white flowering display. Some nurseries think this is one of the best flowering trees. I can say this is truly a beautiful tree in the spring.

So if you are looking for some color to add to your lawn then consider a flowering cherry. The floral display of this tree can leave you breathless.
