How do communities involve a wider circle of people to address problems and realize goals?
Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) is a powerful approach to community development that will focus your effort on discovering and mobilizing the resources that are already present in your community. To learn more about developing effective leadership skills that will enable you to discover and develop your community’s assets, attend the 11th Annual Illinois Leadership Conference, “Community Partnerships that Really Work!” on June 10, 2009 in Champaign, beginning at 9 a.m.
The conference and tour are designed for anyone in a leadership position, serving on a board of directors, working on community projects or with committees, and seeking to manage and lead more effectively. Conference topics include leveraging boards and key stakeholders of your organization, managing the “money mix” of your nonprofit, community engagement “how to,” capacity-building for local officials, using technology (for the non-techies), involving youth, and “going green” examples from local government.
Cost of the conference is $75, and includes all materials, refreshment breaks, and lunch. Cost of the tour is $30. Scholarships are available. Participation is limited, so register early. For more information, call Anne at 217.333.5126.
Join us for a pre-conference tour to learn about "green" building and the benefits, both economic and environmental. We’ll visit residential and commercial buildings in Champaign and Urbana to learn directly from those who developed these projects. Our hosts are Don Fournier, Senior Research Specialist in Sustainable Planning and Design at the University of Illinois Building Research Council, and Pattsi Petrie, PhD, AICP, P2 Consulting.
When: 1 to 5 p.m. June 9
Cost: $30 (includes lunch and transportation)
Space is limited!
