MarketMakerTM
Producers,
buyers, sellers, and distributors in Illinois now have an online 
marketing
tool. MarketMakerTM is an interactive website designed to find supply
chain partners and to improve knowledge of where food consumers are
located and how they make food related purchasing decisions.
MarketMakerTM includes demographic and business data that the user can query. Details can be summarized on a map to show concentrations of consumer markets and strategic business partners. For example, a user can request a list of federally inspected packing plants along with a map that identifies their locations. If you are a grocery store owner or manager looking for the closest producer of organic vegetables, you can query the website to find the names and contact information.
Census data is also a feature of the site. For example, a producer wanting to sell meat to Hispanic consumers can request a map showing the greatest concentration of upper income Hispanic households, then request a complete demographic profile of those locations.
The most important phase now is to register producers into the database. Producers can go online and register free of charge or contact Sandy Shetler at 309-792-2500.
The objectives of MarketMakerTM are:
- To improve the Illinois agriculture supply chain by better linking farmers, processors,retailers and consumers.
- To develop a training module on how to use the geocoded web site.
- To develop a training module on how to utilize the information from the web site.
