4-H Leaders' Meeting Scheduled
Leaders -- Plan to attend this informative meeting to find out what's new in 4-H for the 2008-2009 program year and also what's been dropped or changed. Meeting face-to-face will allow us to discuss upcoming 4-H events as we look ahead to summer 2009 activities. As always, your input into this past 4-H year's activities, such as 4-H Fair and Achievement Night, is welcome. Start-up packets will be distributed too.
A meal will be provided, so please call the office to let us know if you will or will not be attending.
4-H Federation to meet December 1
The December Federation meeting is scheduled for Monday, December 1st. Officer elections will be held. Please Note: Those wishing to be considered for an office, must bring the completed Officer Petition form with them to the meeting.
We'll also be making tray favors for residents of local care facilities to enjoy during the Holiday season. Hope you can join us!
Premium Checks Need Cashed
Premium checks were given to 4-H Club leaders at Achievement Night for distribution to 4-H members. Please cash those checks. The bank only has to honor them for 60 days.
Don't forget to send thank you notes to anyone you received a trophy or medal from at Achievement Night. If you need addresses, contact the Extension Office. Include in your notes what you learned in the project.
The annual Kiwanis Christmas Parade has been scheduled for Saturday, December 6, beginning at 5 p.m. This year's theme is "Sights and Sounds of Christmas". In the past, individual 4-H Clubs have participated in this event either with a float or just marching along. If any club is interested, or would like more information, please contact the Extension Office. The registration deadline is Wednesday, November 26.
Travel Abroad With A Culture Kit
Are you running out of ideas for a program at your club meeting? Why not learn about a different country by using a Culture Kit? These kits contain articles, information, and insight to the country's lifestyle and geography. Call the office to reserve a kit and month. Kits available are: Africa, Kenya, Ireland, Norway, Japan 3, Netherlands and Thailand.
2008 4-H Achievement Night
Wayne County held its 4-H Achievement Night at the Geff Ruritan Building on Tuesday, October 7. A light meal was enjoyed by those in attendance.
In addition to award winners, recognition was also given to 4-H Clubs and Leaders, Cloverbuds, First Year 4-H members, 10-year members, 4-H graduates, state fair winners, and those 4-Hers turning in records.
Below is the list of award winners from the evening's program. Congratulations to all!
Sponsored by the Wayne County 4-H Foundation
The Friend of 4-H Award was presented to the Wayne County Farm Bureau. This organization has always been willing to lend a helping hand to 4-H and was recognized for such twenty-three years ago in 1985. We felt that it was time to once again recognize them. The 4-H program in Wayne County is thankful for their "friendship" over the years - whether it was purchasing animals at the 4-H livestock auction or volunteering their services at 4-H events. In addition, they donated a significant amount of money to help construct the new general projects building that we all enjoyed this past summer during the Fair. Without their donation, the Wayne County 4-H Foundation could not have undertaken such a building project.
Sponsored by the Wayne County 4-H Foundation
The 4-H Alumni Award went to Ritchie Byars. Ritchie was a former member of the Happy Hustlers 4-H Club. He specialized in such project areas as beef, woodworking and crops during his 4-H career. He continues to lend a hand to 4-H as an adult volunteer by serving on the 4-H Foundation. This summer, he put in countless hours helping to construct the new 4-H general projects building at the fairgrounds. His help and expertise were invaluable and much appreciated. In addition, Ritchie's wife, Anita, is a leader of the 4-H Country Club, and their three children, Megan, Matthew and Marissa are all active 4-H members as well.
