Amy Thompson Selected to Receive Cecil Shimmin Warren County Volunteer Award

The Henderson-Mercer-Warren Extension Unit has selected Amy Thompson of Berwick to receive the 2009 Cecil Shimmin Warren County Volunteer Award.
The Volunteer Award was established in 1997 to annually recognize a resident of Warren County who has provided extraordinary volunteer service to his or her community through participation as a volunteer. The award is named for the late Cecil Shimmin who provided many years of outstanding volunteer service to the citizens of Warren County.
Amy currently serves as Secretary/Treasurer of the Board of Directors of the Warren-Henderson Farm Bureau and the Warren-Henderson Farm Bureau Foundation. She plays many roles in supporting the Farm Bureau including chairing the Public Relations Committee, serving on the legislative committee, assisting with the Farm Safety Day program that is conducted each fall, and serving as a delegate to the Illinois Agriculture Association annual meeting for the past several years. Amy also arranges to have billboards put up every fall and makes up goodie bags and takes them to farmers in the field each spring as part of the Warren-Henderson Farm Bureau Public Relations Committee. She helps to plan the Farm Bureau annual meeting and heads up efforts each year to find worthy a worthy recipient for the Warren-Henderson Farm Bureau Ag Service Award.
In addition to her active support of the Warren-Henderson Farm Bureau, Amy also engages in a number of other volunteer community service activities including serving as Treasurer of the Monmouth Early Learning Center Board of Directors, a member of the Warren County Library Board and Chairman of the Branch Committee, and President of the T.W.I.C.K Investment Club. She is also a member of the Immaculate Conception School Education Commission Board, Secretary of the I.C.S Athletic Commission, and a volunteer Track Coach for I.C.S. Amy loves gardening and donates a large portion of her produce to the benefit of members of the community.
The Cecil Shimmin Warren County Volunteer Award was presented to Amy Thompson as part of the Warren County 4-H Achievement Program, which was conducted on Tuesday evening, November 3rd at the Monsanto Research Farm just south of Monmouth.
