Notes from Angela

It's hard to believe that it is already November! Thanksgiving and other holidays will soon be here. Along with these are the cold winds of winter and the thought of snow. I guess that's Illinois weather, you never know what you might face from day to day!

  • As you prepare for winter, keep these tips in mind for you and your family during the extreme temperatures of the winter season.
  • Make sure you dress in multiple layers including legs, feet and hands
  • Always wear a hat and gloves when outside. The largest portion of heat loss is from these areas of the body.
  • Limit the amount of time you spend outside playing or working. Go inside periodically to warm up.
  • When you do go inside, remove all wet clothing and change into dry ones if you plan to go back outside.
  • No matter how tempting it may be, never touch or lick exposed metal.
  • If you plan to go sledding, go feet first in a seated position. This will protect you from possible head injuries.
  • Lastly, make sure to use a de-ice product to keep sidewalks, driveways and other areas safe while walking.
