Hancock County high school juniors are eligible to participate in the
Hancock County Youth Leadership Academy. All high school districts in Hancock County are encouraged to send students to represent their school/community.

Each school has a limited number of participants than can attend.
If you are interested in participating in the program, please contact your principal or guidance counselor for an application.

The tentative schedule for the 2007-08 school year is:

¨September 27, 2007
Trinity Lutheran Church - Carthage
"Personality Styles"
Students will identify their ownpersonality traits using the "Colors
Matrixx"-NCTI to help them understandtheir relationships with others.

¨October 24, 2007
Farm Bureau & KHQA - Quincy
"Communication"
Students will visit KHQA Television
Station and view a live noon broadcast,as well as participate in various
communication activities.

¨November 7, 2007
Udder Hill Dairy - Carthage
Kibbe Wildlife Station - Warsaw
"Agriculture & Natural Resources"
Students will tour a dairy farm and
participate in various agricultural
activities at Kibbe Wildlife Station.

¨December 5, 2007
U of I Extension - Carthage
"Poverty Simulation & Local Government"
Students will participate in an interactivepoverty simulation and interact with local government officials.

¨January 16, 2008
Memorial Hospital - Carthage
"Health Issues & RISK Simulation"
Students will tour the hospital, interact withhealthcare professionals, and participate inan interactive RISK Simulation.

¨February 13, 2008
Marine Bank - Carthage
"How Money Works"
Students will tour the bank and participatein a Welcome to the Real World activity,where they will manage a monthly budgetbased on career and lifestyle decisions.

¨March 12, 2008
DOT Foods - Mt. Sterling
"Entrepreneurship"
Students will tour DOT Foods, learn aboutentrepreneurial opportunities, and
participate in teambuilding activities and acommunity awareness project.

¨April 9, 2008
U of I Extension - Carthage
"Youth Speakout & Graduation"
Students will participate in a Youth
Speakout communication activity. Agraduation ceremony will also be held. Members from the community will be invited to the event.
